We planned our trip to New York City for about a year, give or take a month or two. Through this time frame we would ask friends what they would suggest we do when we were there. We got lots of great ideas, too many to fit into the short five day stay. So now that I am a "pro" at touring the Big Apple, I thought I'd let you know the things I tell someone who was about to visit NYC. Go to a Broadway Show: Whether you like musicals or not, there are tons of options available in the … [Read more...]
How we got Caught up in the Grimaldi’s-Juliana’s Pizza Feud in Brooklyn
I love New York-style pizza, which is based on the original Pizza Margherita from Naples, Italy. It features a thin, but crisp crust, tomato sauce (true Neapolitan pizza uses San Marzano tomatoes run through a food mill with a little salt) and mozzarella cheese. It is this New York-style pizza that made its way to Boston and perfected at Pizzeria Regina in the North End. So, when Wendi and I were headed to New York City, I asked my co-worker, Mogie, where to go because she used to work in the … [Read more...]
Catching our Breath after Taking a Big Bite out of the Big Apple
I know it has been awhile since I have last posted. The reason for this is because I, along with my husband, Bobby, my sister, Randi and her husband, Shaun, have been in New York City, with Times Square serving as our home base. I had thought I would be able to post while there, but honestly by the time I was back at the hotel I was too exhausted to put two syllables … [Read more...]
New York City, Here We Come — Again!
Up until October 2015 I would have never entertained the idea of traveling to New York City. I had been there once in 1989 or 1990, but it was a really quick trip. It was to drop my sister, Sonni, and her family off at JFK International Airport to head to Madrid, Spain. Her husband, who was in the Air Force, was being stationed there. My impression of New York was that it was crowded and busy. But in October 2015 I put in a proposal to do a presentation for a conference that would be held at the … [Read more...]
Wendi’s Blog: A Summer Preview
When I was growing up in Revere, Mass., I loved watching on a Friday night the previews of the new Saturday morning cartoons coming out in the summer. Probably my favorite cartoon was Hong Kong Phooey. In the spirit of those beginning-of-summer previews, allow me to give you a glimpse of things we are anticipating on Wendi's Weekend Trips & Whatnot this summer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Va_Rmpd3PZI Family stuff With our niece Ashley and her boys, DeAveon and Noah, spending a lot … [Read more...]
