Wendi and I watched an episode of Cook's Country, a PBS series done by the folks at America's Test Kitchen, in which the chefs made a Wisconsin spicy cheese bread. While talking about the bread, they also mentioned Wisconsin Butter Burgers, something of which I had never heard. The bread looked good. It used a brioche dough, which involves eggs. I am not a big fan of brioche breads, but this spicy cheese bread looked really good, so I asked Wendi to make one. She probably will for our … [Read more...]
Did We Just Get Authentic Philly Cheesesteak in Ohio?
Wendi and I have been very busy lately, with work, with the holidays, with our great-nephews and with helping to organize a marriage event. Because of our schedules, there has not been a lot of traveling done for this blog, just a whole lot of whatnot. But, Wendi remedied that Saturday when she let it be known she wanted to go do something for the blog. That something turned out to be a triple treat: Lunch at Original Steaks and Hoagies in Twinsburg, Ohio; a walk with Owney, our dog, through … [Read more...]
‘Patriots Day’ Relives the Boston Marathon Bombings
From the moment I saw the trailer for "Patriots Day," a film depicting the April 2013 Boston Marathon bombings and subsequent manhunt for the two bombers, I wanted to see it. While I was in Wooster at the time of the explosions, two people, both in Boston that day, offered me glimpses in the tragedy and the capture of the perpetrators. The first was Kathryn Gabriele, a Wooster native who was running in the marathon, and the second was Seth Mnookin, someone I connected with at a conference for … [Read more...]

Last year marked the first full year of the blog. Wendi started it in late July 2015, so from January-August 2015, there is not much to compare. However, where we can compare 2016 was better than 2015, except for December 2015, which was an anomaly for this blog (more on that later). Where we faced challenges was … [Read more...]
Carnegie Deli Closing its Doors Today, We Got There Just in Time
Well, Wendi and I got there in time, sort of. My wife, Wendi, the founder of this blog, was scheduled to give a presentation on the Council of Accreditation's annual conference at the luxurious Waldorf Astoria in midtown Manhattan. Wendi's Aunt Pam and our friend, Jan Maxwell, told us we had to go to Carnegie Deli. The place attracts a lot of tourists, and there seems to always be a line out front of patrons waiting to get in. We were among them one hot July night. When I read on NPR's website a … [Read more...]
