I’ve taken the whole vacation thing a little too far. I mean really I’m on vacation, but I do blog about weekend trips and whatnot so you think I would be writing a little bit more. So as I sit here in one restaurant, I’d like to tell you about another restaurant.
We can probably say this is our vacation of chicken fingers. It started with our trip to get dinner on Thursday night in Columbus at Raising Cane’s chicken finger restaurant. You can read about Bobby’s take on it here. Well once we got into North Carolina and settled in, we needed to find a place to eat. We had thought about several options, but we were very hungry. Or should I say I was very, very hungry. It was almost 9 by the time we ate. For a Friday night, everything was crazy busy even at that time of night. So what ended up happening is that we went to Zaxby’s Wings and Chicken Fingerz.
Basically, Zaxby’s is like Raising Cane’s, with the one exception, that you can get traditional wings in addition to boneless wings and chicken strips. If I had my choice, and whenever I’m given the option, I will choose traditional wings. I think sometimes there’s too much breading on the chicken fingers and boneless wings.
So I decided to go with the platter of five traditional wings and chicken strips with fries. I mean I still needed to try the chicken strips to see how they compared to Raising Cane’s. The sauce I got on top of my traditional wings was the sweet and spicy. It had a little bit of a kick to it but not too much. The wings were really good. Nice and tender. The platter also came with ranch and celery. That was a plus! The chicken strips were crisp, tender and juicy. And they had a little bit more flavor than Raising Cane’s.
The fries at Zaxby’s were good. While I am sure they are frozen crinkle cut fries, they were thicker and longer than the ones at Raising Cane’s, which to me is a good thing. The honey mustard dipping sauce was thicker than Raising Cane’s, but I liked the flavor of theirs more than Zaxby’s.
Bobby liked Raising Cane’s more than Zaxby’s, but he enjoyed both. In fact, while we’ve been traveling we have seen quite a few Zaxby’s, but not many Raising Cane’s. I am wondering if Raising Cane’s is more of a northern chain and Zaxby’s a southern.
We have enjoyed Zaxby’s a couple times on our trip. I have probably eaten more wings and chicken fingers in the last week than in the last couple of months. Thankfully, both places have been good. They are worth trying, no matter where you are.
