I heard a quote recently by Stephen King, I think. It went something like, “inspiration is for amateurs, the rest of us get up and get to work.” For someone like me, who is feeling a bit of writer’s block, I am convicted. I by no means would ever think to put myself in the same stratosphere as a writer like Stephen King, but I do fancy myself as a semi-professional writer. (I do have a couple of little books for sale on Amazon!) Yet, here I am hoping for inspiration to come upon me as I type these words. I’ll wait…nothing.
When you write a blog about weekend trips and whatnot, but haven’t gone anywhere for awhile, you kind of tend to focus on the whatnot. When your life is basically the same old thing every day, there isn’t even a lot of that! So I was talking to a friend today and she suggested I write about what we’re doing right now. My husband, Bobby, and I just finished the 11th day of a 21 day detox or cleanse. The first 10 days of this detox was basically a vegan diet minus the gluten (meaning no pasta or bread). I will say we weren’t so strict. If we had been following the diet completely, we would have eaten more raw than cooked vegetables and not used whey protein in our smoothies. But, hey, we’re not fanatical.
Why did we subject ourselves to such torture? (I should really say that just about me, because I think being a vegetarian or vegan is like suffering a slow painful death.) Well, as we ended 2016 and anticipated the beginning of 2017, we knew we needed to do something drastic to get “back on track” with our eating. We understand that our health is always in jeopardy with the excess weight we carry around and we are really, really, really ready to do something about it.
Today, day 11 of the 21 day diet, we finally got to add meat to our meals. As a staunch meat-eater, I am more than relieved. Right now, I am digesting my dinner and happily satiated. We did this diet about 5 or 6 years ago and I had said I would never do it again. I guess I should learn never to say never! I will say that I did enjoy the roasted sweet potato and carrots. Will probably be adding that to our meals regularly in the future.
Am I happy with the results? You bet. Bobby and I both lost quite a bit of weight. We consider this a jump start to the year. How this will impact the our restaurant posts, only time will tell. But for now, let me bask in the glow of being 10 pounds lighter.*
