Back in 2006 I was helping with the Easter program at Parkview Christian Church. Well, really, it was more of a pre Easter program. What I ended up doing was writing a few monologues for characters from the Bible. I had written one for the chief priest’s servant, one for Simon of Cyrene, one for the Roman soldier, one for the woman at the well, and one for Mary Magdalene. With the help of several people from our church with sets and of course actors, we were able to have these monologues put into action.
I think the reason I wrote the monologues, was to give a little bit more depth to the story of those people who were touched by Jesus. The goal I had originally was to write several monologues of that kind of storyline. The kind where maybe giving a glimpse of what could have been going through their minds as they encounter Jesus in their lives. Since 2006 I’ve only actually written one other monologue. And that was just recently. It was the story of the paralytic who was lowered through the ceiling to the feet of Jesus. When I read that monologue to Bobby he was interested in perhaps seeing about it’s being put into an audio framework.
What ended up happening, is that through I would suppose you would say Providence or God’s sovereignty, at least that’s what I would say, around the same time Bobby had began to be in contact with a former coworker and now radio host in another state. The gentleman, Joe Ledford, was willing to bring my monologues to life.
Here are two of then that he has put together for me. I hope you enjoy them.
