My mother's birthday is today. I wanted to repost this from 2019. This past year we heard a lot about heroes and I truly think my mom is one. She sacrifices for her family and friends so much. She gives until she has nothing left. She is amazing. And I want the world to be reminded once again of these important lessons I learned from her. (I've added some different pictures.) January 13th is the birthday of one of the most influential people in my life. She has molded me through the years to … [Read more...]
Do It Yourself Ugly Sweater
I don't remember how many years that ugly Christmas sweaters have been in vogue. I only know that I have never invested in one. I think every year, that I'll finally breakdown and purchase one, but then I don't. This year I was sure I would. My co-workers had decided to have an Ugly Sweater contest during a carry-in lunch they were planning for Friday, December 14. So I faced a dilemma, do I buy a sweater or just attend the lunch? Or...do I make one myself? Well, I decided to see if I … [Read more...]
Our Gracie Girl is Gone
Usually when a pet leaves our family for the Rainbow Bridge I let Owney write about them. He's written about Parker, Corky and Kirby. But this time, I wanted to write the post. Our Gracie girl died on July 13th, 2018. She lived to be almost 18 years old. Or at least that's how old I would guess her age to be. I think she was probably born in November 2000. I'd like to tell you the story of how Gracie came to be part of our family. At the time we were living in Hillsboro, Ohio. Bobby was a … [Read more...]
Touched by Jesus: Two Perspectives
Back in 2006 I was helping with the Easter program at Parkview Christian Church. Well, really, it was more of a pre Easter program. What I ended up doing was writing a few monologues for characters from the Bible. I had written one for the chief priest's servant, one for Simon of Cyrene, one for the Roman soldier, one for the woman at the well, and one for Mary Magdalene. With the help of several people from our church with sets and of course actors, we were able to have these monologues put … [Read more...]
Napcation: Combining the Best Elements of a Staycation and Napping
Being the founder of a blog titled "Wendi's Weekend Trips and Whatnot" you would think that I keep busy going to new places all of the time. While this is mostly true, I also enjoy a good nap. (While some wives complain about football season, I see it as a chance to get a 2 hour nap on Sunday afternoons for 16+ weeks.) I will say that I never intentionally took a week off from work with the idea of napping, until this year. My husband, Bobby, and I have had a busy year and next year … [Read more...]
