As I write this post, I am able to say that I just finished my second 5K as a "runner." Don't get me wrong, there were plenty of walkers who finished before me, but I ran both times, the whole time. Believe me, that is quite a statement for someone like me. I never, ever, ever would think that running would be part of any sort of exercise that I would do. I'm a couch potato through and through. But when your husband comes home from the doctor saying, "The doctor told me that my joints are … [Read more...]
Simply Having a Wonderful Wooster Time
When the city editor at The Daily Record, Jarred Opatz, went on vacation, I put in a lot of hours trying to fill his shoes. The job seemingly never ends, and I had a lot of overtime when he was gone. So, with Jarred back, I decided to take Friday off, and Wendi was able to get the day off, too. I wanted to go to Raising Cane's in Columbus (a place that specializes in hand-breaded, deep-fried chicken tenders), but Wendi preferred staying close to home. So, we compromised: We stayed close to … [Read more...]
Music, Food, Fun & Friends at Fiore’s
My husband, Bobby and I have driven by Fiore's in Wooster for years on our way to RKO. We've even gone by when they have had bands playing on the patio, but we've never stopped. That is until Friday, July 28, when a Pat Benatar tribute band was playing. The name of the band is Invincible: A Tribute to Pat Benatar and the '80s. Bobby loves to listen to live music. I love '80s music. The weather was great, even a little cool for a July evening. The band was awesome. Bobby had such a good time … [Read more...]
Summer, Music (Man), and Dancing
It always is a little frustrating to me when people complain about small towns or rural counties and it being boring. Those are the same people who think living in the city with all the people, noise and traffic, give them an edge because "there's so much culture and so much to do." I'll admit I used to be one of "those" people. I couldn't wait to get out of my home town, but I was young and a little dumb. What I am finding now that I am older, is that if you want things to do in small towns or … [Read more...]
Wayne County Cupcake Tour: How Sweet It Was (and Will Be Again)
EDITOR'S NOTE: One year ago, my husband, Bobby and I, were privileged to participate in the inaugural Wayne County Cupcake Tour. We aren't able to make it this year, but just knowing it's this weekend, makes me want to relive the memory. (I hope you don't mind!) Oh, one thing is different this year than last, they added two more locations. So now not only do you get extra cupcakes, but get to visit two more establishments, The Pine Cone Gift Shop and Kidron Sports Center. Here's last … [Read more...]
