When I was a kid I always looked forward to fall, not just for the cooler weather, but also because of the new TV shows and new seasons of my favorite TV shows starting again. Thankfully for me, an avid couch potato, I don't have to wait to get my fix of new episodes until fall for some of my favorites. Now new seasons start in January, too. A show that is beginning again that I am so excited for is Mercy Street. It is a PBS historical medical drama that is set in Alexandria, Virginia during the … [Read more...]
A Pleasant (and Filling) Evening in Richmond, Virginia
This should be the final installment of our Richmond, Virginia trip (but Bobby informs me it won't be, because we did stop in Charlottesville, VA on the way home). For those of you just joining us, my husband, Bobby and I took a whirlwind road trip to Richmond so that we could visit the set of Mercy Street, a PBS/Lone Wolf Media medical drama that centers around the Civil War. Bobby was interviewing Dr. Tony Tizzano for The Daily Record. I went just to cross it off of my bucket list. The … [Read more...]
Sine: “This is It!” A Great Irish Pub in Richmond, Va.
As I shared in a previous post, my husband, Bobby and I made a speedy trip (relatively speedy) to Richmond, Virginia. While we were in town, we stayed at the Residence Inn in Downtown Richmond, which fortunately is within walking distance of … [Read more...]
Rest, Refreshment and Revisiting the Past in Downtown Richmond
When you go on a whirlwind trip to Richmond, Virginia, there are two things you need to make sure you have. First you need a place to rest your weary head. Second you need sustenance. Fortunately for my husband, Bobby, and I, we were able to have both in very close proximity of each other. We stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott in downtown Richmond. We've never stayed at this type of hotel before. It is a beautiful hotel with many wonderful amenities. The staff was great and very … [Read more...]
A Conversation with Actor Gary Cole
Wendi and I really enjoyed our recent trip to Richmond, Va., where I was there to write what became a series of stories on a local physician, Tony Tizzano, and his role as a medical history adviser on the PBS/Lone Wolf Media production, "Mercy Street," a Civil War-era medical drama. While doing an initial interview for The Daily Record newspaper with Tizzano in the courtyard of the hotel where we were staying in downtown Richmond, actor Gary Cole walked past us. Cole plays James Green … [Read more...]
