When I told my husband, Bobby, that I wanted to visit my Aunt Kim and Uncle Jay in Greencastle, Pennsylvania for a weekend sometime this year, I hadn't expected him to suggest the upcoming weekend. But that is what he did. Due to the fact that I was working for the week, the travel plans were up to him. (He had taken a week of vacation.) I would have never thought of going on a ghost tour, so I am glad he planned things. It turned out that Mark Brugh's Sharpsburg Civil War Ghost Tour was a … [Read more...]
One Busy Friday We Spent in Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia
What began with one planned event, a 90 minute tour, turned into a day long adventure. My husband, Bobby, and I took a long weekend to visit my Aunt Kim and Uncle Jay in Pennsylvania near the Maryland State border. It was one of our favorite ways to go -- impromptu -- no set plans. Well, that isn't exactly true. Bobby did schedule us for a tour in Sharpsburg, Maryland, but that was it. Except that wasn't it at all. Here is a brief overview of our day. We will be writing more about each … [Read more...]
Malabar Farm: The Big House
The weekend my husband, Bobby, and I went away for our anniversary, we saw things that we hadn't seen before. However, we did go back and see The Big House at Malabar Farm. We had gone to visit Malabar Farm in February with our dog, Owney, but of course we couldn't tour the house. (You can read about Owney's impression of the property and his frustration about being unable to go inside building in his post about Malabar Farm here.) Bobby and I had actually seen the "Big House" back in … [Read more...]
Pleasant Hill Dam Stopped Us in Our Tracks
When I started writing my blog post from the other day, Wednesday March 15th, 2017, I had anticipated writing a post about the Pleasant Hill Dam. What turned out to happen though was I got off on a tangent about taking pictures while Bobby drove the car. If you want to read about that Fiasco you can check it out here. So this is my attempt to write a blog post about Pleasant Hill Dam. The dam itself is actually not what I expected. I guess in my head, I thought it would be something like Hoover … [Read more...]
Traversing the Trails to Lyons Falls in Mohican State Park
Back in February, my husband, Bobby, and I stumble upon the Mohican State Park Covered Bridge on one of our day trips. When I say stumbled upon, I mean we had no idea we would find it or that it would be right next to the trailhead for Lyons Falls and Pleasant Hill Dam. I would have probably encouraged Bobby to make the trek to the falls on that day, but we were not dressed for hiking in any way, shape or form! (I had dressed for a date out with Bobby, not for tromping in the woods.) Yet the … [Read more...]
