Update: Since this blog post originally published, Champs Chicken is now open in Apple Creek. It is located in the BellStores on U.S. 250 that runs through the heart of the village. I was really excited to go and try the chicken once I heard it was open. However, it was just a little bit disappointing when Wendi and I arrived there to get some of the chicken. When I arrived there, I didn't see any bone-in chicken. I asked if they were cooking some chicken. I discovered BellStores made the … [Read more...]
Krispy Krunchy Chicken Lives Up to the Hype
A couple of years ago I saw a link on Facebook about the best fried chicken restaurant you never heard of ... because you can only find it at convenience stores or gas stations. Krispy Krunchy Chicken, a Louisiana-style fried chicken akin to Popeye's chicken, is that restaurant, and when Wendi and I finally made it to one, the "restaurant" did not disappoint. So, I had read a blog post on Thrillist a couple years ago about this awesome fried chicken restaurant, and I really wanted to try … [Read more...]
Sinking Our Teeth into Brown Bag Burgers
There is no end to the different burger places to try. It's not exactly the mission of Wendi's Weekend Trips and Whatnot to try them all, but then again having the chance to try a new is always a winning opportunity for us. After reading a few reviews saying they were better than Five Guys ... well let's just say I had to see for … [Read more...]
Arthur Treacher’s Still Reeling Fish Lovers In
When I was a kid, I liked to go to Medina to eat out. Being from the Village of Lodi, restaurant options were slim in the 70's and 80's. You basically had to travel 20 minutes. Sometimes I was able to talk my parents into going to Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips. There I could get my own boat of fish filets with "chips." To a girl like me who appreciates thicker fries they were way better than the french fries at McDonald's or Burger Chef. Plus I could get all the tartar sauce I wanted to dip … [Read more...]
Trip to Almost Heaven Ice Cream was it Divine Intervention?
I don't know about you, but when I see the name of an ice cream shop "Almost Heaven" it seems like a sign that I should give it a try. That is exactly what my husband, Bobby, and I did during a recent trip to Canton, Ohio. We had traveled to Canton to visit the First Ladies Library and Historic site. After our tour we enjoyed lunch at John's Grill, but wanted something sweet to end our day. I did a search for desserts near us and that's when I found Almost Heaven Homemade Ice Cream it was … [Read more...]
