Did you have a good New Year's Eve and New Year's Day? We hope your 2017 is better than 2016. For Wendi's Weekend Trips & Whatnot, 2016 was a time of growth and a time of challenge. Last year marked the first full year of the blog. Wendi started it in late July 2015, so from January-August 2015, there is not much to compare. However, where we can compare 2016 was better than 2015, except for December 2015, which was an anomaly for this blog (more on that later). Where we faced challenges was … [Read more...]
Carnegie Deli Closing its Doors Today, We Got There Just in Time
Well, Wendi and I got there in time, sort of. My wife, Wendi, the founder of this blog, was scheduled to give a presentation on the Council of Accreditation's annual conference at the luxurious Waldorf Astoria in midtown Manhattan. Wendi's Aunt Pam and our friend, Jan Maxwell, told us we had to go to Carnegie Deli. The place attracts a lot of tourists, and there seems to always be a line out front of patrons waiting to get in. We were among them one hot July night. When I read on NPR's website a … [Read more...]
A Taste of the Homeland
Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good, which is exactly what I think happened on Wednesday, December 7. That day was my husband's birthday. He also loves a good pizza, with a particular affection for authentic Neapolitan pizza. 3 Palms Pizzeria provided the perfect pie to celebrate his birthday. As soon as … [Read more...]
Lunch at Skyline Chili Takes Me Back to my Cincinnati Days
Since I started my blog, I try to get to new places and go to different restaurants. However, sometimes I just want to get something familiar and dear to me. That's exactly how I ended up at Skyline Chili on Friday, October 14, 2016. I was at a training being held at the Holiday Inn in Mayfield Village. It was a two part training, but lunch was "on our own." I was not familiar with the area, so I turned on my trusty cell to see what Google maps could tell me. There were places closer to … [Read more...]
Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon: Wooster/Put-in-Bay Edition
Wendi, my wife and the founder of this blog, and I attended our first blogging conference this summer: Bloggy Conference 2016, which was held at Cedar Point. It was there we met Katrina Reed, from Miller Boat Lines, who attended the conference to build relationships with bloggers. From the meeting, we were given two tickets for ferry rides from Miller Boat Line and a golf cart from E's Golf Carts. There was a twist: Katrina wanted our dog, Owney, to "write" the blog. He was more than happy to … [Read more...]
