"The elevators are out; we'll have to use the steps." Doesn't sound like a big deal, does it? But, it is a big deal if you have a number of aging veterans in wheelchairs at the top of the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C., when you hear the news. Wendi and I were blessed to travel with a group of veterans from Wayne and Holmes counties in Ohio to the nation's capital as part of the Honor Bus Trip, designed to take veterans to see the war memorials. Ways to Get Around New York City
When my husband, Bobby, and I went to New York City in July, I was more than a little nervous. See, I am a girl from a small town and while there was a time that I felt the draw of the city, that was a long time ago. Now I am much more comfortable in small towns and on two-lane roads. However, we were headed to the Big Apple because that was where the conference was being held that I was doing a presentation. So like it or not, I had to "soldier through" like Bobby says. Reached Pittsburgh, Relived Reacher
I am the type of person who can watch a movie over and over and enjoy it as much as I did the first time. Maybe even more. My husband, Bobby, is not like that. He doesn't usually watch a movie a second time, let alone over and over. The one exception is the movie Jack Reacher. We both really like that movie. (Blog continues below photos.) So when we decided to make a trip to Pittsburgh on Saturday, April 23, 2016 we knew we had to visit some of the sites where the movie was filmed. (As an … [Read more...]
Falling for Brandywine Falls
Since I saw a Facebook post about the best waterfalls in Ohio, I have been looking forward to nice weather so I could start visiting them. Finally, Saturday, April 16, 2016, I got the opportunity to at least see one. We visited Brandywine Falls at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Sagamore Hills Township. On our drive there, Bobby read to me the blog Linda Hall wrote of her and her husband's hike to the falls. Her blog talked of taking a lengthy hike in which she eventually made it … [Read more...]
Surplus Stories from the Amish Heartland
It's been a week or so since my husband, Bobby, and I took our anniversary trip to the Amish heartland. But we still enjoy talking about all we did. Bobby and I love to get away. It is nice to just be together and experience new things. While the primary focus of the trip was to experience Berlin, we didn't start our trip out there. (If you want to check out the blogs about Berlin, click here or here.) We were on the way to Strasburg to Blazin Burgers. Bobby wanted to take me there for … [Read more...]
