I love the Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical The Sound of Music. In fact, it is one of my favorites. I grew up watching it every year on network TV (before VCRs and DVDs and DVRs). Julie Andrews owns the role of Maria the nun, turned governess, turned wife of a naval captain. I sing the songs, even when I'm by myself and without any accompaniment. It's just so familiar to me. Sometimes, I have even forgotten it is based on a true story. But this past October 2017, my husband, Bobby, and I were … [Read more...]
A Tale of Two 5Ks in 8 Days: Learning to Never Say ‘Never’
As I write this post, I am able to say that I just finished my second 5K as a "runner." Don't get me wrong, there were plenty of walkers who finished before me, but I ran both times, the whole time. Believe me, that is quite a statement for someone like me. I never, ever, ever would think that running would be part of any sort of exercise that I would do. I'm a couch potato through and through. But when your husband comes home from the doctor saying, "The doctor told me that my joints are … [Read more...]
Five Things to Do In (or Near) Stowe, Vermont
During a recent visit the family of my husband, Bobby, in Massachusetts, we decided to take a quick trip to Vermont. Owney Goes Camping
Ever since I came to live in my forever home, in August 2013, I have had tons of fun with my mom and dad, Wendi and Bobby. They have taken me places, allowed me to try new things and basically spoiled me. Being a terrier-beagle mix from the Humane Society, I must say I never dreamed of such fun. But the most recent adventure I had wasn’t with Mom and Dad. It was with my Aunt Randi and Uncle Shaun (whom I love to pieces!). When Mom and Dad went away to their blogging conference earlier in … [Read more...]
Anniversary Adventure at Holden Arboretum
My husband, Shaun, and I recently celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary. We wanted to find something to do together that day, that would be memorable. We decided to go to the Holden Arboretum in Kirtland, Ohio to check out the canopy walk and emergent tower. Since I can't explain it any better than their website: "The Holden Arboretum is an outdoor living museum on 3,600 acres that promotes the beauty and importance of trees and other woody plants. The grounds feature over 20 miles of … [Read more...]
