The last time I attended a Memorial Day Ceremony in my hometown of Lodi, Ohio, was probably when I was in High School marching band. That would have been over 30 years ago. I don't remember what I thought or felt at that time. I probably was hot and tired from marching up Bank Street with a trombone. I can almost guarantee that I didn't really understand the magnitude of what we were doing or who we were honoring. Fast forward 30 plus years and thanks to the addition of social media, I … [Read more...]
Basking in Wooster’s New Dunkin Donuts/Baskin-Robbins
I know what you're thinking, because I have thought it, too, but no, this is not becoming exclusively an ice cream blog. However, on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, the eagerly anticipated opening of the combined Dunkin Donuts/Baskin-Robbins finally occurred. I was super excited about Dunkin Donuts and on my way to work stopped for a donut. I didn't realize that I would be stopping by in the evening for ice cream. But hey, when my husband, Bobby, suggested we go, he didn't really have to twist my … [Read more...]
Cowhaus Creamery Flavors Know No Boundaries
Bobby, my husband, took Owney and me for a ride on a recent Friday night. He had heard about a new artisan ice cream shop, Cowhaus Creamery, that will be coming to Wooster, Ohio in the very near future. He decided that we needed to do some market research by going to see the original location in Oberlin, Ohio. I always like the idea of taking Owney for a ride, so it was no big deal for me to consider driving to Oberlin for ice cream. It is a nice drive from Wooster to Oberlin. I have only … [Read more...]
Cheesemaking is Easier Than You Think; Thanks to Ricki’s and Lehman’s
My father, Bob Sr., was a chef, and mother, Carmen, is an Italian who can cook better than my dad. I grew up loving to cook and later working for my dad. I have cooked in restaurants featuring continental cuisine, steaks, Italian food, Mexican food, gourmet food and fast food. Being Italian, I love to cook. Living in a heavily concentrated dairy area like Wayne and Holmes counties in Ohio (home to Smith's, a dairy operation, Smucker's, and award-winning cheesemakers like Guiggisberg Cheese), I … [Read more...]
Getting the Scoop(s) about New Pittsburg Ice Cream Shop
A funny thing happened on the way to Cedar Point recently. Bobby, my husband, and I were traveling U.S. Route 250 going to Cedar Point's media event for the opening of their newest coaster, Valravn. (You can read about that adventure by clicking here.) Just a little before the Ashland County line (so still in Wayne County), we saw the sign for an ice cream shop, Scoops Sweet-Treats & More. We didn't have time to stop for ice cream, but we made a mental note that we would come back and give … [Read more...]
