The first time I went into MacKenzie River Pizza Grill & Pub I knew that I would have to bring my husband, Bobby, back to try it. There was just something about the place and the fact that though they originated from Montana, it was their pizza they were known for, so it was a no brainer that I would be back with my pizza-loving husband. That was almost one year ago, but I finally accomplished this during a recent trip to Columbus. Friends of ours, Ron and Jan Maxwell, had invited us … [Read more...]
Krispy Krunchy Chicken Lives Up to the Hype
A couple of years ago I saw a link on Facebook about the best fried chicken restaurant you never heard of ... because you can only find it at convenience stores or gas stations. Krispy Krunchy Chicken, a Louisiana-style fried chicken akin to Popeye's chicken, is that restaurant, and when Wendi and I finally made it to one, the "restaurant" did not disappoint. So, I had read a blog post on Thrillist a couple years ago about this awesome fried chicken restaurant, and I really wanted to try … [Read more...]
Ohio Flags of Honor Brings Closure and Healing
Volunteers placed more than 300 flags in the field in front of Triway High School Friday night as part of the Ohio Flags of Honor Traveling Memorial opening ceremony. Zimmer on May 30, 2004, in an enemy attack in Kufa, Iraq, and the heavy losses suffered by Lima Company, Third Battalion, 25th Marines, Fourth Division about a year later. Following … [Read more...]
CC Top: This ZZ Top Tribute Band not Under Pressure
A while ago, I heard one of my favorite Cleveland-area bands would soon be no more ... three of the four members were setting aside their '80s-themed band in favor of CC Top, a ZZ Top tribute band. My heart sank when I heard the news, because I really liked Moonman TV, and I was not a big fan of the boogie-woogie and blues rock band from Houston, Texas: ZZ Top. Oh, well. However, I was in for a pleasant surprise when I attended CC Top's show in Mansfield Saturday night with friends Kenny Hart … [Read more...]
Arthur Treacher’s Still Reeling Fish Lovers In
When I was a kid, I liked to go to Medina to eat out. Being from the Village of Lodi, restaurant options were slim in the 70's and 80's. You basically had to travel 20 minutes. Sometimes I was able to talk my parents into going to Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips. There I could get my own boat of fish filets with "chips." To a girl like me who appreciates thicker fries they were way better than the french fries at McDonald's or Burger Chef. Plus I could get all the tartar sauce I wanted to dip … [Read more...]
