There is just something romantic about a castle. I thrill at the thought of visiting one in Europe some day. But I found that I don't need to go so far to be swept away. I discovered this during a recent visit to Landoll's Mohican Castle. The Castle is celebrating it's Kingdom of Lights this holiday season (November 17, 2018-January 6, 2019). They have decorated each building with lights and piped in Christmas music to put everyone in the holiday spirit. I found out about the event through … [Read more...]
Firenza Pizza proves to be a wonderful surprise
Anyone who has read this blog for any length of time should know by now I love pizza, and the pizzas Wendi and I had at Firenza Pizza in Sandusky proved to be a wonderful surprise. We didn't want pizza for dinner (well, actually Wendi didn't; I can eat it any time), and we had no idea we would be eating dinner in Sandusky. Wendi and I were on our way to Marblehead, Ohio, to get away for a little bit. Normally, we take a vacation in the summer, but we had visited North Carolina, Georgia … [Read more...]
Ottaway’s Parkside Ice Cream Parlor — Ice Cream in the Family!
There are many fun things I get to do because I want to have things to write about on this blog. I have dragged my husband, Bobby, to all kinds of new places and he has done the same to me (when there has been a dry spell with no new content). One of the best things I get to do is go to ice cream shops. But you better believe there is something a little bit special about visiting one that is owned by a family member. A couple of years ago, my parents visited my Aunt Pam in Florida. They … [Read more...]
The Original Steaks & Hoagies Opens in Fairlawn on National Cheesesteak Day
A year or so ago, Bobby and I decided to take a day trip that landed us in Twinsburg, Ohio so that we could try a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich. Bobby had done a search for the best Philly Cheesesteak in Ohio and The Original Steaks & Hoagies was by far the most recommended. (You can read about the adventure here.) One of the owners saw Bobby's post and put it on the company's website. Bobby saw that and they became Facebook friends. Because of that, one of the owners, Jeff Wiseman, … [Read more...]
Guy Fieri’s American Kitchen & Bar Goes Kaput; I might be to blame
My wife, Wendi, the founder of this blog, and I seem to have a negative effect on New York businesses. A year after we visited the Waldorf Astoria it closed. After we visited the famed Carnegie Deli it closed. We ate at Guy Fieri's American Kitchen & Bar, and now it has gone kaput. Where will it all end? Well, a little truth in advertising: The Waldorf Astoria closed for repairs (you can read about it here); I think the owner of the Carnegie Deli just wanted out of the business (you … [Read more...]
