O.K. I never, ever thought I would be sad to not have traveled to New York City in the summer. But after watching several of our friends post pictures on Facebook about their travels to the Big Apple...well, let's just say I was more than slightly jealous. Adding salt to the wound is just about every TV show we have watched lately have been filmed in NYC. Every establishing shot, either my husband, Bobby, or I will say, "We've been there." As a way to deal with my melancholy for not having … [Read more...]
Guy Fieri’s American Kitchen & Bar Goes Kaput; I might be to blame
My wife, Wendi, the founder of this blog, and I seem to have a negative effect on New York businesses. A year after we visited the Waldorf Astoria it closed. After we visited the famed Carnegie Deli it closed. We ate at Guy Fieri's American Kitchen & Bar, and now it has gone kaput. Where will it all end? Well, a little truth in advertising: The Waldorf Astoria closed for repairs (you can read about it here); I think the owner of the Carnegie Deli just wanted out of the business (you … [Read more...]

Time is running out, and the question on everybody's mind (OK, maybe it's just us, but play along) is will the views on Wendi's Weekend Trips & Whatnot in 2017 eclipse the numbers from 2016? Only time will tell, and you have a role. As regular readers know, Wendi, the founder of this blog, and I … [Read more...]

When I was a senior in high school I took a college prep English class. One of the assignments in the class was to write a term paper about any author. I chose Jonathan Swift. He wrote Gulliver's Travels. I don't know that I ever read the actual book, but I was fascinated by the idea of Lilliput, the country in Gulliver's Travels of the tiny people. I guess I'm not the only one, because while I was in New York City with my husband, Bobby, sister, Randi and brother-in-law, Shaun this summer, we … [Read more...]
Junior’s Restaurant in NYC Proves to be an Excellent Choice
When we visited New York City this past August, every day was a busy day. Wendi, the founder of this blog, and I made the journey with Randi and Shaun Vahl (Randi is Wendi's sister). We averaged 10 miles a day walking, and it was always grueling. On Aug. 22, we began the day walking forever to pick up a ferry ride to Brooklyn. Part of the walk included a trip on the High Line, elevated train tracks converted into a walking trail. The day would take us to Ground Zero (you can read about an … [Read more...]
