My husband, Bobby and I have driven by Fiore's in Wooster for years on our way to RKO. We've even gone by when they have had bands playing on the patio, but we've never stopped. That is until Friday, July 28, when a Pat Benatar tribute band was playing. The name of the band is Invincible: A Tribute to Pat Benatar and the '80s. Bobby loves to listen to live music. I love '80s music. The weather was great, even a little cool for a July evening. The band was awesome. Bobby had such a good time … [Read more...]
Summer, Music (Man), and Dancing
It always is a little frustrating to me when people complain about small towns or rural counties and it being boring. Those are the same people who think living in the city with all the people, noise and traffic, give them an edge because "there's so much culture and so much to do." I'll admit I used to be one of "those" people. I couldn't wait to get out of my home town, but I was young and a little dumb. What I am finding now that I am older, is that if you want things to do in small towns or … [Read more...]
Spend a Few Minutes With Frank (Sinatra Impersonator)
I celebrate my birthday for a week, and while there have been a couple events already, Friday was the big kick off to my annual birthday week. Joined by my husband, Bobby, and my parents, Bud and Dolores Breese, we went to the Music Box Supper Club in Cleveland to watch Michael Sonata, a Frank Sinatra impersonator. Michael and his band were terrific. It is late on Friday; we just got home, and I wanted to give you a taste of a wonderful concert. Check out the video below of "New York, New York," … [Read more...]
A 40-year Brumance with @Springsteen
This is about a Brumance. As a freshman at Ohio University in 1978, walking down the dorm hall, I heard it. A guitar rip that stopped me in my tracks. My RA’s door was open. I asked, “Who’s that?” It was Bruce Springsteen, and it was Born to Run. It was the album, but more importantly to my music future, it was “Born to Run,” the song. I’d heard of him, but didn’t know him. I do now, nearly 40 years later, at least as much as a fan can know someone she’s never met. I’ve … [Read more...]
Wonderful Discovery on ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’ (Akron, actually)
Not too long ago, I saw an ad for a Brit Floyd concert in Cleveland. I had never heard of Brit Floyd, but I figured it was a Pink Floyd Tribute band. I love live music, and I like Pink Floyd, so I put out a call on Facebook to see if any of my friends might want to go the show and feel that warm thrill of confusion, that space cadet glow. I had no takers, so I didn't go. Little did I know then I would go to an Australian Pink Floyd Show concert in Akron. While I never heard of Brit Floyd, … [Read more...]
