"Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five year mission: to explore strange, new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before." I can't believe that a five year mission has stretched into a half century. However, it was 50 years ago today, (September 8, 1966) when the TV series, Star Trek, first aired. It actually only ran for three years, from 1966-1969. Yet, somewhere along the way, it became a cult … [Read more...]
Forrest Gump, Washington D.C. and Me
I love movies. Not all movies, but the ones I like, I have no problem watching over and over again. On our DVR right now we have plenty of movies waiting to be watched that I have yet to see. I often select the ones I have already watched and enjoyed previously. I guess there is just something comfortable about watching a movie when I know how it ends. The boy gets … [Read more...]
Movie Marathon with My Dad
This past Tuesday, July 26, I got to spend time with my dad, Bud, at the movies like we do every year for his birthday. As I've said in another blog post, this is a tradition that started back in 1985 with the movies Silverado, Pale Rider and Cocoon. I checked out Groupon to see what deals I could find. That's how I stumbled across the Midtown Manhattan Movie Tours. I really like movies, so the idea of getting to see the filmed locations of over 50 different movies was just about the most exciting thing regarding our trip to New York. After a few scheduling … [Read more...]
Great Birthday Celebration, I Mean It. Anybody Want a Peanut?
My birthday celebration this year was quite a production. It had been in the works for the better part of the year. Bobby had warned me to stay away from his emails, so I wouldn't see what he was planning. Well the day finally arrived when all his hard work paid off and he proved once again that he is fully awesome. He dropped me off at our good friends house, the Maxwell's. Ron went with Bobby, while Jan was made responsible for getting me to the event on time. What was the event, you … [Read more...]
