Today, September 6, might be considered the unofficial end of Summer 2016 -- or beginning of Fall depending on if you think of Labor day as the end of Summer. Phew! I don't know about you, but for me and my husband, Bobby, it has been a whirlwind of a season. I thought I might reflect on things a little, partly because I am tired from the weekend, but mostly because I had such a great summer, I kind of want to re-live it. The Beginning of Summer in May -- It started out quiet enough with … [Read more...]
Nothing Rinky about Rinky Dink Family Fun Center in Medina, Ohio
When I turned 10 years old, I got to have a slumber party with a group of my friends. We put a tent up in the backyard and slept outside. When I turned 10, about 100 years ago, they didn't have places like Rinky Dink Family Fun Center. But now they do, and so, thanks to a terrific offer on Groupon, we (my husband Bobby and I) went there to celebrate our great nephew, DeAveon's birthday. The birthday party consisted of DeAveon, his brother, Noah, his mother (our niece), Ashley, Great … [Read more...]
Movie Marathon with My Dad
This past Tuesday, July 26, I got to spend time with my dad, Bud, at the movies like we do every year for his birthday. As I've said in another blog post, this is a tradition that started back in 1985 with the movies Silverado, Pale Rider and Cocoon. So, that we only take one day out of the year for our marathon is … [Read more...]
I Found New York-style Pizza in the Unlikeliest of Places
In Boston, most pizzerias make a New York-style pizza. This is the style I grew up eating, and it is the one I prefer. This style of pizza has a thin crust (not like Pizza Hut's thin, cracker-like crust), is hand-stretched, hand-tossed and baked in an extremely hot oven (one coal-fired oven in New York reaches 2,000 degrees). Because of the high heat, the pizza cooks in mere minutes. This browns the cheese, chars the crust and gives the pizza a nice flavor. Well, trying to find this … [Read more...]
Chill and Try Some Artisan Ice Cream
The date was Saturday, February 13, 2016. The event was the Medina Ice Festival. The temperature was 16 degrees, with a real feel of 8 degrees. The weather was snowy, not blizzard conditions, but it was coming down pretty good. That is when Bobby, my husband, and I found Chill, an Artisan Ice Cream Company on the square in downtown Medina, Ohio. I do not subscribe to the idea that it can be "too cold" for ice cream. Actually I don't even believe that you can be "too full" for ice cream. … [Read more...]
