As I write this post, I am able to say that I just finished my second 5K as a "runner." Don't get me wrong, there were plenty of walkers who finished before me, but I ran both times, the whole time. Believe me, that is quite a statement for someone like me. I never, ever, ever would think that running would be part of any sort of exercise that I would do. I'm a couch potato through and through. But when your husband comes home from the doctor saying, "The doctor told me that my joints are … [Read more...]
Bella Sera Restaurant Offers Beautiful Evening Out
My husband, Bobby, and I really enjoy the Food Network's show, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Mostly because it gives us a look at out-of-the-ordinary types of food and because the restaurants are unique and well loved by the locals. Probably because we like to try new places, we jumped at the chance to join our friends, Ron and Jan Maxwell, in trying Bella Sera Pizzeria and Ristorante in Massillon, Ohio. The Maxwell's had not been to the restaurant either. They had heard about the pizzeria … [Read more...]
I Ran My First 5K and Lived to Tell About It
On Saturday, Wendi (my wife and founder of this blog) and I ran the Ashland YMCA Fritter 5K. While I have run the distance before in high school (not as part of a sanctioned race) and have walked a couple 5Ks, this was my first time running a 5K, if you can call it that. My primary care physician had moved his practice … [Read more...]
The Village Network’s Sweet Jubilation: Because Life’s Not So Sweet Sometimes
Saturday night, I had the chance to join my lovely wife, Wendi Warren, the founder of this blog, for a wonderful evening at The Village Network's Sweet Jubilation at the Shisler Center on the Wooster campus of Ohio State University. Never having seen Sweet Jubilation up close and personal, I always thought of it as a black-tie affair to raise money for the nonprofit organization. The entire evening was a fun time, except for one moment (but, we'll return to this later). We walked in and … [Read more...]
How Little Ronnie Muir Upset Big Babe Ruth
One of the things I enjoy in life is meeting people and hearing their stories. (Maybe that is because I grew up listening to my dad, Bud, tell stories of his life.) I am fascinated by people who have been around awhile and have much more experience than me. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to spend time with a 92 year old during a recent trip to Massachusetts. My husband, Bobby, and I always stay with his sister, Michelle, and her husband, Glenn. Glenn's dad, Ronnie, also lives with … [Read more...]
