As the readers of Wendi's Weekend Trips and Whatnot know, I love to go new places and try different things. However, there is something comforting about doing that which brings connection and grounding to a soul. For me, that is spending time with family and friends. I had the chance during a recent day off, to enjoy some down time with special people in my life. Breakfast with Nancy Nancy Green and I met in 2003. That is when my husband, Bobby, and I moved into the area and began … [Read more...]
My Tribute to Mr. Carasea: The Band Director Who Shaped My Life
I received sad news on July 11, 2019. That is the day I heard that Mr. Gerald Carasea, or Mr. C as his students' affectionately called him, passed away at the age of 68. I graduated from Cloverleaf High School over 30 years ago, but I remember fondly my time as a "band rat" under the tutelage of Mr. C. I have so many memories of Mr. Carasea. He was an inspiring person. He taught me the fundamentals of playing the trumpet when I was in fifth grade. He overlooked the fact that I forged … [Read more...]
CC Top: This ZZ Top Tribute Band not Under Pressure
A while ago, I heard one of my favorite Cleveland-area bands would soon be no more ... three of the four members were setting aside their '80s-themed band in favor of CC Top, a ZZ Top tribute band. My heart sank when I heard the news, because I really liked Moonman TV, and I was not a big fan of the boogie-woogie and blues rock band from Houston, Texas: ZZ Top. Oh, well. However, I was in for a pleasant surprise when I attended CC Top's show in Mansfield Saturday night with friends Kenny Hart … [Read more...]
Get Your ’80s On with Moonman TV
There are a lot of things from my adolescence that I don't care to remember. Junior High and High School are times that I think are best left in the past or at least the deep dark recesses of my mind. However, the music from that time of my life is still one of my favorite types. The 1980's top 40 pop with a few heavier metal songs, are my mojo if I want to get my heart pumping. And if you give me a Karaoke mic, well, you can probably guess that Love Shack will be a song that I select to sing, … [Read more...]
Mama Santa’s a nice option in Cleveland’s Little Italy
Wendi and I recently joined Jon and Linda Hall (of Walking Ohio with Jon and Linda Hall fame) on a trip to Cleveland where we spent the day at the Cleveland Museum of Art and part of the night in Little Italy, where we ate dinner at Mama Santa's Restaurant and Pizzeria. We settled on the restaurant thanks to a Facebook group to which I belong. The group caters to foodies in Northeast Ohio. I was looking for a nice, traditional Neapolitan pizza. (Truth be told, I am always looking for a … [Read more...]
