My wife, Wendi, and I love to watch Guy Fieri's "Diners, Drive-ins & Dives" and Michael Symon's "Burgers, Brews & 'Cue" on the Food Network. It was while watching one of these shows where we learned of the term "gastropub," which generally refers to a pub that serves quality food. The owners of Broken Rocks Cafe & Bakery brought that style of eatery and pub to Wooster, and we are better for it. Wendi and I decided to try out the Rox Gastropub with her sister, Randi Breese, and … [Read more...]
Chill and Try Some Artisan Ice Cream
The date was Saturday, February 13, 2016. The event was the Medina Ice Festival. The temperature was 16 degrees, with a real feel of 8 degrees. The weather was snowy, not blizzard conditions, but it was coming down pretty good. That is when Bobby, my husband, and I found Chill, an Artisan Ice Cream Company on the square in downtown Medina, Ohio. I do not subscribe to the idea that it can be "too cold" for ice cream. Actually I don't even believe that you can be "too full" for ice cream. … [Read more...]
It Might Have Been Quicker Flying to Germany for German Food
My dad, Warren (Bud) Breese, is mostly the kind of man that goes with the flow of things. When asked what he wants for Christmas or Father's Day, he usually says, "world peace." (One caveat, in case my mother contests this, I'm speaking from a daughter's point of view.) So on Saturday, February 6, 2016 when he … [Read more...]
Canton’s Table 6 Kitchen + Bar = 10
Wendi and I headed to the Canton area for the day. We wanted to take a tour of the Harry London Chocolate factory, visit the National First Ladies Museum and get a bite to eat at someplace that was not a chain and something different than what we can get in Wooster. We discovered Table 6 Kitchen + Bar. We learned about the restaurant from the Visit Canton website. While we live in Wooster, it is not like we are totally unfamiliar with Canton-area establishments. I thought Table 6 must … [Read more...]
Wendi and the Chocolate Factory
A recent trip to North Canton allowed my husband, Bobby and I a tour of Harry London's Chocolate Factory. I didn't even need a golden ticket! In fact, anyone can tour the factory if you visit it on a weekday. The tours begin at 10 a.m. and are every hour until 4 p.m. When we arrived, we were given the opportunity to enjoy one of Harry London's signature chocolates, the Buckeye. We were about 20 minutes early for the next tour at 1 p.m., so we perused the retail store. There we were given … [Read more...]
