Did you have a good New Year's Eve and New Year's Day? We hope your 2017 is better than 2016. For Wendi's Weekend Trips & Whatnot, 2016 was a time of growth and a time of challenge. Last year marked the first full year of the blog. Wendi started it in late July 2015, so from January-August 2015, there is not much to compare. However, where we can compare 2016 was better than 2015, except for December 2015, which was an anomaly for this blog (more on that later). Where we faced challenges was … [Read more...]
Not Another Pizza Post! Sì, Scusa.
Regular visitors to the blog might recall Wendi, my wife and founder of this blog, took me to 3 Palms Pizzeria & Bakery (read about it here) in Hudson, Ohio, for my birthday. At the restaurant, I was treated to a wonderful Neapolitan-style pizza, much like the kind I grew up eating in the Boston area. The pizza was so good, it inspired me to make my own. Now, Wendi and I are no strangers to making pizza at home. If I were a betting man, I would say we make pizza more often than we … [Read more...]
Never Tire of This Birthday Tradition: A Cake Like No Other
My birthday falls on a day that will live in infamy, Dec. 7, Pearl Harbor Day. Each year, I can count on two things from my wife, Wendi (the founder of this blog): A poem and a homemade pineapple upside down cake. One year, Wendi found a recipe in the "Joy of Cooking" cookbook for pineapple upside down cake. She decided she would make it for me. Oh, my. The cake was the best pineapple upside down cake I ever had. It has become a tradition over the past 15 years or so. Wendi makes … [Read more...]
Grocery Shopping in Massachusetts
My husband, Bobby, has family that live in a town close to Boston, Massachusetts. We make it a point to visit at least once a year. We are blessed to be able to hang out with our family and see the east coast. But one thing that I dread when we come, is the grocery shopping we have to do. My sister-in-law, Michelle, says she isn't a good cook and while I don't agree with her, one thing she knows how to do really well is throw together a massive spread for family get togethers. It's great … [Read more...]
My Italian Husband likes this ‘Basil’ Restaurant
I have a confession to make. I am not a big Asian food fan. I like Chinese food, but I am pretty sure what I enjoy is its American-ized version. However, I don't really care for Thai or sushi or anything like that. When my husband Bobby told me that Basil, an Asian Bistro was coming to Wooster, it wasn't like I was jumping up and down to visit it. It has been open for four months and we finally did go. We met our friend, Greg Long, for lunch on Friday, September 30. When I walked into … [Read more...]
