Wendi and I have been very busy lately, with work, with the holidays, with our great-nephews and with helping to organize a marriage event. Because of our schedules, there has not been a lot of traveling done for this blog, just a whole lot of whatnot. But, Wendi remedied that Saturday when she let it be known she wanted to go do something for the blog. That something turned out to be a triple treat: Lunch at Original Steaks and Hoagies in Twinsburg, Ohio; a walk with Owney, our dog, through … [Read more...]
It’s a Pizza. It’s a Cake. No, It’s a Pizza Cake!
Let me suggest to you when you go on a 21-day cleanse/detox, that you stay away from Facebook's "Tasty" videos. In case you don't know what that is, they are videos that show different recipes. (I really love watching them!) But to watch one on a "pizza cake" in the middle of a detox, let's just say that isn't the smartest thing to do. Pressure Cooker Cheesecake? Yessir!
When Bobby told me he bought a pan to make pressure cooker cheesecake, my first thought was, "Why?" I know he likes to try new things in the kitchen, but seriously, who ever heard of a cheesecake that is made in a pressure cooker? So I was a bit apprehensive. The other interesting thing about this whole cheesecake thing, is that he … [Read more...]
Vegging Out In 2017, But Not Like You Think
I heard a quote recently by Stephen King, I think. It went something like, "inspiration is for amateurs, the rest of us get up and get to work." For someone like me, who is feeling a bit of writer's block, I am convicted. I by no means would ever think to put myself in the same stratosphere as a writer like Stephen King, but I do fancy myself as a semi-professional writer. (I do have a couple of little books for sale on Amazon!) Yet, here I am hoping for inspiration to come upon me as I type … [Read more...]
How a 3-Pound Monster Stole Christmas (Dinner)
"I'm making the Italian dish," my brother-in-law Shaun Vahl informed Wendi and me this year. I am the third generation on my mother's side to be born in the United States. Every holiday in an Italian household includes all the traditional foods you would get here, plus the Italian dishes. "Will I like it," I replied, and Shaun assured me I would. Italian cooking covers a wide spectrum of flavors and ingredients, and I am more partial to the Southern Italy dishes than the Northern Italy … [Read more...]
