I remember the first time I saw Periscope, a Twitter app that allows its users to stream video live, being used. It was during the Compassion Step Up walk. Parkview Christian Church's lead minister, Brian White, was using it while we were walking through each station. I was intrigued, but my first thought was, "Why doesn't Bobby, my husband, know about this." I am not tech savvy in the least. I might have a lot of tech kind of items, but it is only because Bobby has brought it home or … [Read more...]
East Meets (Mid)West: A Dinner for the Ages
On Friday, March 4, 2016, Wendi and I will be celebrating our 21st wedding anniversary. We have plans for the day: Head out to the Amish Heartland and enjoy a stay at the Berlin Grande Hotel. But, I was feeling good and wanted to cook Wendi a special dinner before our special day. I stopped at Buehler's on the way home thinking I would get some Certified Angus Beef top sirloin to cook and potatoes to bake. I picked up both of those items, but then I saw egg roll wrappers marked down. Then it hit … [Read more...]
In a Word, Rox Gastropub in Wooster Rocks
My wife, Wendi, and I love to watch Guy Fieri's "Diners, Drive-ins & Dives" and Michael Symon's "Burgers, Brews & 'Cue" on the Food Network. It was while watching one of these shows where we learned of the term "gastropub," which generally refers to a pub that serves quality food. The owners of Broken Rocks Cafe & Bakery brought that style of eatery and pub to Wooster, and we are better for it. Wendi and I decided to try out the Rox Gastropub with her sister, Randi Breese, and … [Read more...]
It Might Have Been Quicker Flying to Germany for German Food
My dad, Warren (Bud) Breese, is mostly the kind of man that goes with the flow of things. When asked what he wants for Christmas or Father's Day, he usually says, "world peace." I know, he doesn't ask for a lot--so we usually give him a trivia game or book or take him to the movies. But the point is, when he asks specifically for something, it is a rare occasion. (One caveat, in case my mother contests this, I'm speaking from a daughter's point of view.) So on Saturday, February 6, 2016 when he … [Read more...]
The Sweetness of Doing Nothing…Or Blogging
When my husband, Bobby, and I got married, almost 21 years ago, I was a different person. I was a perfectionist with a streak of anal retentiveness mixed with a huge helping of anxiety and worry. If things weren't perfect...if I wasn't perfect it was a tragedy. Fast forward 21 years and I have changed...for the better, I think. I no longer get stressed out if I'm not early to a function. I can let myself go to bed with the kitchen in disarray. I can enjoy just relaxing while the house is … [Read more...]
