When my husband, Bobby, and I took our recent "stay-cation" we spent a few hours in downtown Wooster, Ohio. Let me say, that a few hours is really not long enough to see everything Wooster has to offer. We were, however, there long enough to get a reminder of how varying the establishments are. We started our tour at the now closed First Amendment for what turned out to be our final taste of their terrific burgers. While I am sad to see it closed, I am glad to have had a chance to … [Read more...]
Spoonfuls of Oils, Vinegars Help the Medicine Go Down
When I first heard about Motts Oils & More in downtown Wooster, Ohio, I was intrigued. A store with specialty vinegars and oils. It sounded like a place that Bobby would like to go. He came home from covering the Small Business Saturday event in November saying he had visited the store. (He covered the event for a story in The Daily Record.) He said that you could taste all kinds of vinegars and oils. That sounded a little strange. Not sure how one goes about "tasting" oils or vinegars. I … [Read more...]
Mitchell’s Homemade Ice Cream Better Than Graeter’s?
I would not call myself an ice cream snob. I have had (and enjoyed) all kinds of ice cream from the very costly to the least expensive. Anyone else remember when you could get a gallon of ice cream in a box? But I do have my favorite ice cream. Graeter's chocolate chocolate chip ice cream is simply the best. However, when Bobby and I were in Cleveland on December 7, 2015, we had the opportunity to try Mitchell's Homemade Ice Cream. First of all, I had never heard of Mitchell's before and … [Read more...]
Sure Fire Way to Get in the Christmas Spirit
Editor's Note: Last year, I went to Castle Noel with family after Thanksgiving. I heard that they may be moving, so if you want to see the museum in its original location, this could very well be the last year to do that. Don't miss it! Recently, I joined my sister, Randi, my parents, Bud and Dolores, my niece, Ashley and her sons, De'Aveon and Noah for a trip into Christmas. Well it was actually a visit to Castle Noel in Medina, Ohio, but it was all things Christmas. Mark Klaus, … [Read more...]
12 Places to Stay in Ohio’s Amish Country (and Get Some Cookies, Too)
Bobby and I have been married for more than 20 years and we have always enjoyed visiting the Ohio Amish Heartland in Holmes County. Sometimes it is just a quick trip for the day and other times it is for a long weekend. We have enjoyed staying at bed and breakfasts and hotels. It has always been a matter of searching the internet to find a place to stay. However, on Saturday, December 12, 2015, we had the opportunity to join 700 others by attending the 8th Annual Christmas Cookie Tour of Inns, … [Read more...]
