When we visited New York City this past August, every day was a busy day. Wendi, the founder of this blog, and I made the journey with Randi and Shaun Vahl (Randi is Wendi's sister). We averaged 10 miles a day walking, and it was always grueling. On Aug. 22, we began the day walking forever to pick up a ferry ride to Brooklyn. Part of the walk included a trip on the High Line, elevated train tracks converted into a walking trail. The day would take us to Ground Zero (you can read about an … [Read more...]
Getting the Lowdown on Melt Bar & Grilled
There are some places that I have gone to eat prior to starting my blog. Melt Bar and Grilled is one of those places. The first time I tried Melt it was in Columbus with our cousin Danny. It was okay, I had heard so much about it that I guess I expected something different. When my husband, Bobby, and I went to Fairlawn recently, he suggested we go to the one there. I didn't know that Fairlawn had a Melt, so I figured it must be pretty new. Since I haven't written about it previously, I agreed … [Read more...]
Rebecca’s Bistro: Not Your Typical Amish Fare

Wendi and I didn't grill out at our home last summer because our barbecue grill rusted out, and we never replaced it. It was somewhat aggravating because we only had the old unit for what seemed like a couple years. It was the most expensive grill we had ever purchased; it had a stainless steel top, and I thought that was a good thing. The problem was only the cover was stainless steel, and it held up well. The rest of the unit: The burners, the grates and everything just kept rusting and … [Read more...]
Bobby Follows Father’s Roots to British Cafe & Pub
I go through life telling everyone I am an Italian. After all, my mother, Carmen, is all Italian, and my father, Bob Sr., is Heinz 57, a little bit of everything. His surname is English. There was a Richard Warren who came over with the Pilgrims to Plymouth, Mass., on the Mayflower. When I visited Plymouth Plantation as an elementary student, I was surprised to learn the Warrens were involved in cooking for the pilgrims. While I have no clue whether my family is related to the Richard Warren … [Read more...]
