So, as I am writing this, I am sitting in my sister’s dining room during the last few minutes of the third quarter of Super Bowl 51. Right now, the New England Patriots, who were favored to win, are actually behind the Atlanta Falcons. If you know anything about me, you know I can get really stressed out when watching a football game when I care how it ends. Since Bobby, my husband, is from Massachusetts, he is a huge fan of the Patriots. I am a fan through marriage. So I am stressed right now.
When I get stressed I tend to eat. Let me tell you that there is no lack of things to eat here tonight. I think Bobby posted what we were planning on making to snack on during the game. Well, we had all kinds of food to enjoy, even if the game was torture to watch.
We had chicken empanadas, made by Shaun, our brother in law with filo sheets. They were really good. The filo dough made the empanadas, nice and flakey.
Bobby or Shaun (I’m not sure who) grilled steak for steak and cheese tacos. Bobby convinced me to make homemade flour tortillas. I have done this in the past, but it was a long time ago. He thought he bought flour that was specifically for tortillas. It actually was tortilla flour mix. All I had to do was add water. Apparently, that was too challenging for me! Shaun said that they had good flavor, but they weren’t pliable at all. Kind of hard to make tacos when they don’t fold. (They became tostadas, instead.)
We also had our Wisconsin Spicy Cheese Bread, a vegetable tray, cheese tray, BBQ chips, tortilla chips, and crackers. If that wasn’t enough, we had Bobby’s pressure cooker cheesecake, some other store bought cheesecake (which was pretty good) and a chocolate braid. Needless to say there was plenty to drown my stress in.
Right now, I don’t know if I will come back and finish this blog after the game is over or not. Regardless, I have plenty of options to nibble on as the last quarter of the game plays out.
EPILOGUE: We are driving home now after an incredible comeback by the Patriots. I am amazed they won in the first ever overtime period during a super bowl. Bobby who was pretty quiet most of the game cheered up quickly. I did actually go into the living room to watch the OT. It was nail-biting for me, but I did get away from the food. All in all it was an interesting time tonight. But I am really, really glad the Patriots won and that we’re going back to our diet tomorrow!
