I am a child of the 70’s, so I have been around since the beginning of Star Wars. From the first time I saw the words “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…” I have watched Luke, Leia, Han, Chewbacca, R2-D2 and C3PO grow older. Along the way they added friends and family members to their story, as did I. The one constant with them is the fight between good and evil. I probably like it so much because good triumphs over evil — eventually.
My dad, Bud, and I went to watch the latest episode of the Star Wars saga today (Friday, December 15). The Last Jedi opened this week and since I was on a staycation this week, I decided there was no better way to end it than to see Star Wars with my dad. (Bobby, my husband, had to go to back to work on Thursday, which is why he didn’t join us this afternoon.) We especially enjoyed watching it at the Regal Massillon Stadium 12. Their reclining seats are awesome!
I didn’t read any articles about the movie, save one. The author did not give any spoilers away and neither will I. I will say that while some of the movie reminded me of previous Star Wars films, it was also different. The Force, which is ever present in all of the movies, is more so in this one — if that is possible.
I enjoyed seeing some of the old characters from the original films, the characters from the previous movie (The Force Awakens) and the introduction of new ones. There were some new creatures in the film as well. And really what would a Star Wars movie be without a bar scene of some sort? It was especially poignant to see Carrie Fisher as General (Princess) Leia knowing this was her final film. Seeing it dedicated to her was also moving.
While my favorite Star Wars Trilogy will always be the first, I find myself looking forward to seeing how the filmmakers wrap up this trilogy. There were some interesting storylines left hanging in the most recent movie. The film definitely leaves room for a sequel and I will certainly be watching for it. Until then … May the Force be with you.
