Anita Renfroe is hilarious! She has a way of looking at the world, especially the world of middle-aged women, that can bring the house down — or at least the Medina Performing Arts Center.
I attended her comedy concert with a group of friends on Saturday, September 12. We journeyed from Wayne County to Medina to partake in a little “Girls Night Out” event being held there.
I had never been to see Anita Renfroe, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I know that I loved her “Momsense” video on Youtube. (You can check it out below.) But other than that, I was attending with no pre-conceived notions.
I was told by one of my professors, Tom Friskney, that “much truth is spoken in jest.” I certainly have a better understanding of that saying after listening to Anita. She has a way of pointing out the truth of life with her jokes. We laughed at what she said because we could totally relate.
She also sings these really funny songs. She took Taylor Swift’s song, “Mean” and put new lyrics to it. It is called, “Clean.” I don’t know what tune she used for her song, “Those Ain’t Pants,” but one woman said in the Q&A session, that she’ll never look at leggings the same again.
Anita talked about the things that happen as we grow older. The things that we took for granted when we were young. Hannah, a 17 year old girl in the audience, was a great sport when she was answering Anita’s questions. Anita asked her how many pairs of skinny jeans she had. Hannah answered, “10.” She asked her if after doing a cartwheel or somersault, if Hannah had to “adjust” herself. Hannah gave Anita a blank stare, which just made the rest of the room laugh. Anita asked Hannah to appreciate all of the things she can do now, because that changes. The rest of the auditorium agreed.
After the concert, we were standing in the hall near Anita’s merchandise table. As we waited for everyone to gather together for the ride home, Anita came out to work her table. I am never the type of person who will go up to a performer and ask for a picture or autograph. (The one exception is Ricardo Montalban, but that is another story.) However, since I started my blog, I was the second person in line!
Anita was so kind and generous to me. She signed my VIP placard and let me get a couple of pictures of me with her. She was welcoming and friendly to me and all those around her.
Natalie Grant was part of the Girls Night Out, too. Watch for my post about her concert. It was such a great night, I couldn’t fit it all into one blog!
