While this blog has already had a post about Smoke the Burger Joint, it wasn’t written by me. So this it is my turn. (If you want to read the other post done, by guest blogger, Dan Starcher, click here.) My husband, Bobby, and I decided to go on a date on Monday. He had suggested a trip to Canton, but I really didn’t want to drive out of town. It was a work night after all! So I convinced him that staying close to home was better. That is when he remembered that it is R & R Week in Downtown Wooster.
Restaurant & Retail Week is a Main Street Wooster event which is sponsored by Westfield Bank and The Daily Record. It had been known as Restaurant Week in the past, but this year includes a little bit of “Retail.” Several stores in downtown Wooster will offer specials throughout the week with extended hours on March 1st (many open until 8 p.m.). You can see the restaurants and retail establishments participating in the event by going to Main Street Wooster’s website here.
Back to Smoke the Burger Joint. During R & R Week, you can get $10 lunches and $20 dinners. Smoke’s deal was two burgers, two fries and two shakes for $20. This sounded like a great deal for us!
What I like about Smoke the Burger Joint, is though they specialize in the burgers being smoked, you can get them un-smoked. So Bobby got his burger smoked and I got mine smoke-free. (They don’t call it that, it is my phraseology.) In fact there are a lot of choices that can be made at Smoke.
We were given many options by one of the managers, Greg, who greeted us at the register. He gave us a run down of the different speciality burgers. Bobby got the Classic LA Burger Stand which has burger stand sauce, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions (he didn’t get it with onions). It appears to be their take on the Big Mac. I got the KC Steakhouse Burger. It comes with steakhouse mayo, grilled mushrooms, spinach and blue cheese. Thankfully Greg said I could substitute another cheese for the blue cheese. I chose the cheddar cheese.
Then the fries came with choices. We could get the regular seasoned (with salt only). Or there was the steakhouse seasoning which was garlic, salt and pepper. There is also the smokehouse seasoning which is paprika, salt and pepper. Other options include rosemary and sea salt, parmesan herb, cajun or ranch. With all the choices, I went with the regular ol’ salt flavored. Bobby went with the steakhouse seasoning.
Next came the choices for milkshakes. Now usually I am a straight chocolate milkshake kind of girl. However, I decided to live on the wild-side of life, at least as far as I am willing to go on a Monday night. So I went with the chocolate peanut butter bacon shake. It has little pieces of candied bacon mixed in with the chocolate peanut butter concoction. Bobby selected the Milk Way, which Greg assured him that it tasted just like the candy bar.
We enjoyed our burger, fries and shakes. Greg gave us tips on when was a good time to return to Smoke, as they have some daily specials. On Wednesdays, after 4 p.m., their burgers are $5. On Mondays, you can get half price shakes.
If you are in Wooster this week, you should consider trying one of the restaurants or stores part of R & R Week. It runs from February 26 – March 3 at 9 p.m.
