When my husband, Bobby, and I participated in the inaugural Cupcake Tour earlier this year, we had the opportunity to visit five different Wayne County businesses. The tour took us to P. Graham Dunn, Smuckers Company Store and Cafe, Shisler’s Cheese House, Eastwood Furniture and Lehman’s. Each site had something unique to offer – and I am not talking about the different kinds of cupcakes. Whether it was jams and jellies, pictures and plaques or cheese and crackers, there was something unique to see. That is probably an understatement when talking about Lehman’s.
This wasn’t our first time to Lehman’s. In fact we have been regular visitors there over the years. However, it always seems that we see something that we hadn’t seen before. This time was no exception. We saw a hand crank butter maker, an apple corer and at home cheese making kits.
I honestly thought that since I have been to Lehman’s before that I would be able to just “run in and out” in just a few minutes. Boy was I wrong. As soon as we walked in we got our cupcakes, but then their rows of vintage colas caught my eye. Next it was the cheese making kit. Then we made our way over to the kitchen ware section, which takes you right by the pet section where we had to get a new leash for Owney. Then somewhere along the line we end up by the appliances and then the wind chimes. Of course when I get around wind chimes I need to make sure they work… That they all work!
There are so many nooks and crannies at Lehman’s it would take all day to see everything, maybe two. As we were making our way to the check out counter, where we were going to purchase the leash, several bottles of soda and Bobby’s cheese making kit, we ran into Jay Lehman, the founder of Lehman’s. Because Bobby knows just about every business person in Wayne County, I had the chance to meet him that day. He had been working on some machinery or something and had gotten his hands dirty, so he was on his way to clean them. You have to admire a guy like him, who probably doesn’t need to be working anymore, but does so anyhow.
What I really enjoyed about the Cupcake Tour was the chance to see so many different stores. What was a challenge was seeing all they had to offer. What makes me glad to be living in Wayne County Ohio is that making a trip to Lehman’s is easy, enjoyable and always enlightening.

Julian, I agree! Lehman’s has something for everyone, that’s for sure. I bet your visit in October will be beautiful. I love driving through Holmes County that time of year. With all the hills, you never know what breathtaking view will be greeting you at the top of the next one. I hope you have a great time! Thanks for your comment.
