I love cats…a lot. Those who know me, are not surprised by this statement. We have four right now, but have had as many as seven. I know, I don’t really need another cat. But my dad told me when I was a little girl, that when I grew up I could have all the darn animals I wanted.
Well, tonight, I have brought home a new kitten. Our friends, John and Jackie Drake, who own Valley Oaks Farm, had a kitten show up recently. They were not in a market for a new kitten. I, however, have been.
Owney, our dog, is a really active dog. I had toyed around with the idea of getting a puppy for him, but I didn’t want another dog. I’ve been praying that God would bring the perfect cat to us. I believe our prayers have been answered by Kirby.
Jackie told me that the kitten (they didn’t name him) played well with their dog, Gracie. She said that he got along with their cats. She said that he likes to cuddle and purrs really loudly.
He has been in our house for 2 hours, so far. He has investigated the house, fearlessly. He hasn’t been put off by the other cats hissing. He has taken Owney’s roughhousing. He has stopped to take a bath and he has purred loudly. I have no idea what tonight will be like when I try to sleep. But right now, it has been fun watching Kirby adjust to the crazy house that is the Warren Household.
Oh, yeah, why did I name him Kirby? Kirby is my dad’s middle name. Turns out that Kirby, the kitten, and my dad have the same birthday, July 15. What makes me think that Kirby was meant to be in our house? I didn’t know his birthday until I brought him home tonight, but I named him this morning.
I’m sure if you have any words of welcome to share, Kirby would appreciate it. I’ll be glad to pass them along, so please leave them in the comment section.

Welcome to the family, Kirby! I knew you were going to stay!

Kirby says, “Thank you, Aunt Randi! If you could tell the dumb dog to leave me alone a little, that would be great. He sure is noisy and nosy!”
Jackie Drake says
I’m so glad Kirby has such a wonderful home and that he is adjusting well! It was great fun to have a kitten in the house for a couple of weeks, but he was definitely.not ours to keep.

Jackie, Thanks for taking care of him until we were ready–as ready as anyone can be for a kitten! He is a ball of energy, that is for sure. Kirby and I slept in the spare room by ourselves last night. He needed a break from Owney and I think Owney needed a break, too. He was pretty excited. I’m hoping that each day he gets more used to having a kitten in the house. Thanks again!
