Recently my mom, Dolores, and sister, Randi, told me about their visit to Just Breathe Wellness in Medina for a Foot Detox Bath. I was interested. I became even more so when Randi told me how it seemed to have a positive impact on Mom’s countenance that day. She had been pretty ill, but after the foot bath, she seemed to have gotten better.
We had discussed going sometime together. So the first free day I had I texted Randi to see if she was available. Randi wasn’t, but Mom was. We set up an appointment for late morning.
Just Breathe Wellness has been in business for a few years, but just recently moved their location from Bellville to Medina. In addition to the foot detox bath, they offer two Halotherapy salt rooms, infrared sauna and massage therapy.
The business is welcoming and peaceful when you walk in. Mom was instantly recognized by Mindy, one of the co-owners. She had met Mom at the previous visit. She and Mom talked like old friends. After I filled out the requisite paperwork, Mindy took us on a tour. Well I guess it was for me since Mom had been there previously.
We saw their two salt rooms. One is setup for children and families complete with beach toys. The other room is setup with several chairs for adults. When we were there it had 6 chairs. Mindy said they could fit more if a group requested it.
We saw the room that was set aside for massage therapy and the room with the sauna. Mindy told us that they are also expanding to include float therapy.
Just Breathe’s foot bath room is setup for two people. It was a cozy room, just across from the water closet — not the bathroom, but the closet that the water from the foot bath came.
As I have said, I never had done a foot bath detox, so I didn’t know at all how it would work. Mindy had us put our feet in the foot tub. Then she began to fill the tub with water. We also put the bands on our wrist that is attached to a machine which also attaches to a gadget that sits in the middle of the foot bath tub.
After the water, Mindy started adding pink Himalayan salt a few grains at a time. She watched the machine’s gauge to make sure the levels didn’t go over a certain number, which I believe was 1.6 or 1.7. If it goes higher than 1.9 she would have to start over. I am not a scientist, so I don’t know how the salt and the current work, but I guess it has something to do with acidic and alkaline levels.
Once everything was good to go, we had around 27 minutes left. I watched the water start to change colors. Mom’s water went from clear…
…to orange to brown pretty quickly. And then start to have debris float on top of it.
My water changed color but not as dark.
However, it started to get this foam or bubbles in it and some debris, too. Honestly, it was gross to watch, but like a train wreck, I couldn’t stop watching it.
To help you understand the process and the benefits of a foot detox, there was literature in the room. They have a poster on the wall, too, that gives information on what the colors mean. Apparently the bubbles or foam mean lymphatic systems are being detoxed (or affected) and the floating debris that looked like a thin layer of fat when boiling a chicken? Well, no surprise but it is actually fat!
After the 30 minutes were complete, it was time to take our feet out of the water. Before I went, I wondered if the water would feel different after the detox. I didn’t, however, think about what would happen once I pulled my feet out of the water. Well, the debris that was floating on top of the water, ended up on my feet. Thankfully, Mindy was ready with paper towels and non-toxic cleaner to use on them. Just Breathe thought of everything!
So how did I feel afterwards? Not much different. I was thirsty, but that could have been because you aren’t supposed to eat or drink anything during the detox process. I had hoped that I would have an incredible night’s sleep, as that was what one of the reviewers I read said would happen. (I searched for reviews on Google, while I was sitting there.) Unfortunately, it did not happen as I would have liked.
So the real question is, would I do it again? I think I would, but I wouldn’t go alone. I would do it again for a couple of reasons. I want to see if the water would be different the second time I did it. And two, I enjoy hanging out with my mom and sister. If one of them asked me to go, I would do it again. Whether it has any curative factors, well, I’ll just let you decide on your own.
