Being a dog, at least with my parents, Bobby and Wendi Warren, is a pretty cushy affair. I am basically spoiled and pampered every day of my life. I heard them talking about a Facebook post about some dog saying getting adopted from the humane society is like winning the lottery. I would agree! There are no better parents for me, than mine. But even though I know that, I was blown away on Saturday, January 23, 2015. That was the day they took me for the first time to the Wayne County Fairgrounds, home of Ohio’s Foremost Agricultural Fair.
It’s no surprise that I love car rides. I mean, what’s not to love? You get to go in a car…on a ride. So any chance I get, I take. Saturday, when we went for a ride, Mom pulled into the fairgrounds. Dad directed her to go up by the grandstand. I didn’t know what that meant at the time, but it was a great choice! For those of you reading, who don’t know, the grandstand is rows and rows of seats.
You can climb all the way to the top, which I did! Then I checked things out at the top, came down a few steps, traveled down a row or two and then climbed back up to the top. It was so cool! In fact I liked it so much that when Mom and I got to the bottom and saw that Dad was still up several rows, I decided to take us back up to the top. Mom must have gotten a little tired, because we did stop at row 16 and take a rest.
Now, I could have stayed there for hours. There really is that many new things to smell, but it was a bit chilly. So Mom and Dad thought about taking me onto the track. I actually didn’t get to do that because a horse was practicing for a race. I watched for a second, but since I couldn’t run with it, I was ready to move on.
We went down by a covered bridge and checked things out there. Dad told Mom not to let me get down by the creek that the bridge is over. I really like to do that, but I guess it might have been too cold anyhow.
We walked around for a good 20 minutes. Mom was explaining to me what different vendors or exhibits would be where we were walking once the fair comes in September. Honestly, I didn’t really care too much about that, but she sure likes to chatter! I guess she was getting cold, because she told Dad she would go and get the car. Dad and I just kept walking. I really wanted to go and check out all of the buildings. There seemed to be so many!
While Dad and I are walking, Mom pulls the car up to us. But I just ignored her. ‘Cause even though I love car rides, I was not ready to go yet. I kept hoping she wouldn’t see us, but she did. So we got in the car and left. They did promise to take me back when it isn’t so cold. I can’t wait! Next time I’ll be a little more persistent about seeing everything first before we go home. Did I win the lottery? You bet I did!
