My husband, Bobby, and I had the opportunity to do a little more exploring of downtown Wooster last Friday, January 29, 2016. I’ll be writing about that in another post. However, before we embarked, we enjoyed sharing a meal with the Executive Director of the Wayne County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Marty Starkey, at Broken Rocks Cafe. Lunch was very good.
Our intention, or maybe I should say Bobby’s intention, was to get Marty’s advice on my blog. Because it’s about visiting different areas, he thought her insights would be good. They were. Yet what I found most interesting was the fact that Wayne County is a place filled with activities almost every week.
She talked about the Visitors Guide that is produced every year. Not only does it provide a map of the county and highlights different establishments, it also lists by month the different events offered throughout the county.
Some of the things that we discussed include:
The Cupcake Tour — It is scheduled for the weekend of April 29-30. This is a self guided tour where visitors can see locations like P. Graham Dunn’s, J.M. Smucker Company Store and Cafe, Lehman’s and Shisler Cheese House. At each stop attendees will also get a cupcake to take home.
Wooster Food Tours — This is a private event that you can schedule with a group of friends. A tour is created for you to try different courses from area restaurants. They can even arrange behind the scenes look, if that is what you would like.
Vulture’s Knob Mountain Bike Park — This is a park that bills itself as “Ohio’s oldest, privately owned, opened to the public mountain bike trail system.” Apparently the trails can be quite challenging. I didn’t even know the place existed! Marty said people come from all around to give it a try. (Pretty sure I won’t, but it is still cool that it is so close.)
I could go on, but really I suggest you pick up a Visitors Guide to get the full offering. If you are bored in Wayne County (or think there is never anything to do) it is your own fault.
