I should start my post with explaining that any time I get to spend with my husband, Bobby, it is always great. However some times the best dates aren’t planned, but just turn out great. That is exactly what happened on Sunday, July 3, 2016 in Wadsworth, Ohio.
The date actually started when we went to our friends, Thomas and Jessica Robinson’s house for a quick visit. While there Jessica showed us around. She and Thomas had moved in at the beginning of the year, but were doing renovations until recently. Bobby did a few card tricks that blew Jessica and me away.
After we said goodbye, we headed to Wadsworth. Bobby said we were going to have our dessert first, which in our house we call that “Pat Boone-ing It.” (The reason for that is quite a story, but let’s just say it comes from a trip I took with my family to California when I was a kid.) Turns out that Bobby had done a search for the best ice cream places in northeast Ohio. He found out there was a Subzero Ice Cream & Yogurt shop in Wadsworth. You can bet I will be writing a post about it on a later date, but let me tell you, it was great ice cream and a magical experience, just like they promise.
After dessert we went out for dinner to Marie’s, an excellent Italian restaurant. We weren’t so hungry, of course, so we ended up taking much of our dinner in a to go box. (And again, you’ll see more of it in a future post.) Thanks to Bobby’s friendly manner, I got to meet the owner of the restaurant, Joe Lenze.
Once we finished eating, we made our way to the O.J. Work Auditorium for the Wadsworth Community Band’s Independence Celebration Concert. My dad plays in the band (for those of you new to my blog). What was also a surprise was that my mom, Dolores, our niece, Ashley, and our great nephews, DeAveon and Noah were there. We thought that they weren’t going to be there,so we were very pleased to watch the concert with them.
When we left the concert, we were captivated by the most beautiful sunset we have seen in quite awhile. Thankfully I was driving which allowed Bobby to capture it in photos.
Our plan had been to go home, walk our dog, Owney, and then see the late show of Independence Day: Resurgence. However, once at home, Owney didn’t take too kindly of us leaving him again. We decided instead to take him for a ride, pick up some Coca-Cola Cherry and Barq’s Rootbeer and return home to watch a movie there.
It was a great night to enjoy each other’s company, good food, great music and see family. Again we hadn’t planned any of this, it’s just that everything fell into place. Sometimes the best laid plans aren’t planned out at all. Sometimes it is just a matter of seizing the opportunity and seeing what comes of it. Sometimes it is just being with each other that makes it a great date night. Well, maybe that and some really good ice cream!
