It used to be that my go-to airport was Akron-Canton. We could hope a plane and in less than two hours we’d be in Boston . This was great because my husband’s family lives near Boston. But we can’t do that anymore due to mergers in the airline industry. Thankfully, I have found a new favorite airport, the John Glenn International Airport.
Here is why:
It’s Convenient
Granted it is not as close to me as the airport in Canton, but it still isn’t a bad drive from where we live in Wayne County. When we left a couple of weeks ago, our flight left around 9:30 a.m. The traffic wasn’t bad at all for the time we were on the road. Frankly, I would rather drive to Columbus than Cleveland any day of the week.
Another aspect of convenience includes the fact that they have plenty of plugs for electronic devices. Being a family of more than one device per person, this is so important! Especially when you aren’t the only one looking for a plug.
It’s Clean
I am not some kind of germaphobe or anything like that, but I do notice when things look clean. This airport looked really clean to me. Considering that we weren’t the first flight to leave that day, that is pretty impressive. I would guess that hundreds of people had already been and gone before I got there, but there wasn’t any evidence. I have to believe it is because the custodial staff works hard to maintain the pristine appearance.
It’s Contemporary
I am by no means an expert on style, a fact that would be evident if you came to my house. But I appreciate the clean lines and the general aesthetics of the design . Plus with the contemporary feel, you know that things are relatively new. I don’t know how long ago they remodeled, but it couldn’t have been that long ago! Even the restroom fixtures were contemporary!
It’s Comfortable
I have spent a good deal of time in airports over the last 20 years or so . I have experienced several hours being stuck in the middle of a storm in an airport waiting area . It is no fun. So I am really thankful when I find a place in an airport where I can relax and maybe even stretch out a little. The Columbus Airport has places like that. Bobby and I were able to wait on seats that were built in the window areas. There are also places that you can stand and work on your computer, if you have to do that sort of thing .
Plus just outside the security area they have a scattering of little benches. These come in very handy when you are trying to get everything situated again after TSA has had their way with you. (Everyone was very nice and helpful and I know they are doing what they can to protect us. So I don’t mind the process. It is just nice to know that the designers of the airport put some thought into this area, too.)
It’s Cheap (Inexpensive)
I use that word in a good way. I am always looking for inexpensive aka cheap flights. Columbus Airport came out on top this time. We usually fly Southwest, so we can find pretty deals anyhow, but between Akron/Canton, Cleveland, Columbus and even Pittsburgh, Columbus had the best deal. As an added bonus, the planes we rode were bigger jets. While they have three seats on each side of the aisle, Bobby and I were able to get a row to ourselves.
I was so pleased with the airport in Columbus, we will probably fly from there often. If you are going to take a flight somewhere and you are flexible in where you fly from, I’d suggest taking a look at flights from Columbus. You’ll not only find good deals, but be comfortable in the process.
