My husband, Bobby, and I do a lot of different things on our time off from work. I hope this blog is evidence of this fact. One thing we’ve never done until this weekend, was attend a birthday party for a cat. Our friends, Jessica and Thomas, invited us to a first birthday party for their yellow and white tabby cat, Benjamin, otherwise known as Benny. While some people might think that silly, we are pet people. Plus I am a grade a cat person, so if a feline is the guest of honor for a shindig sign me up!
Jessica had been giving me a preview of what was going to occur on Saturday for Benny’s birthday. She had it all planned out, down to the very last details. Because Benny is a orange/yellow cat her colors were all around an orange theme. That meant orange punch, orange flavored cupcakes, buffalo chicken, and macaroni and cheese.
While the party-goers were enjoying the tasty orange colored food, we also had an opportunity to enjoy the slideshow of Benny’s first year. Jessica and Thomas said that of the photos they had captured (over 100) there was probably many more that that they had wanted to capture, but Benny was just too fast for them to take the picture.
Again, me being a cat person, meant I enjoyed looking at every picture. I love kittens, a lot! So getting a chance to see the shenanigans that Benny got into was hysterical. There was one picture of him sitting in a little cubby hole in their car. Thomas indicated the space was so small that probably their phones would only fit into it. But there Benny was on his first day with his forever home and he had figured a way to wiggle himself into it. Like I’ve seen on the internet he must go by the saying, “if I fitz, I sitz.”
No party is complete without a game. At least that is my perspective. And Jessica did not disappoint. She is a fantastic party planner. So with her first birthday party celebration for Benny, she had a game called: Who Knows Benny Best? I didn’t win the game, but I did have a good showing . I guess because I work with Jessica I hear a lot about Benny. I only wish I had remembered all the minute details that Jessica put into the game. There were 17 questions and some of the questions had more than one point. So I think when all was said and done there was about 20 points available. I got 13. I don’t feel so bad, because his grandmother, Colleen, who won the game, had gotten 14 points. So I was close.
After our game, the guest of honor had the chance to open his presents. Well actually, his parents opened his presents for him. But he participated in that he investigated many of his new toys, treats, and whatnot that he received. We discovered from his game that one of his favorite things to play with is a stuffed bird at the end of a stick. He was given a couple of other toys that were quite similar to that. Before we ended up leaving the party, we saw Benny take one of his toys that was on the end of a stick and pull it down the hall into another room. I assume he wanted to play with it in private.
I have never had a party for one of my pets’ birthdays. But now I sure wish that I had. I think if I ever do, I will ask Jessica to be my party planner, because she does a wonderful job. I’m a little sad that I didn’t win the game, because the prize that was given out for the game-winner was a return trip to Thomas and Jessica’s for dinner and I’m sure a game. Perhaps even though I’m not a winner I will be invited back to future parties/events. (Jessica if you’re reading this, this is my blatant attempt for another invitation! wink! wink!)
