Imagine you willingly lock yourself in a room with nine of your friends and you have 45 minutes to figure out a mystery to get out. That is how I spent Saturday night, November 5, 2016. My husband, Bobby, and I helped celebrate our good friend, Jan Maxwell’s birthday. Her husband Ron arranged for us to enjoy the experience at Unlocked: Escape Room Wooster.
So I am obviously not going to give anything away in this post about what happens when you attend an event. But I will say it isn’t as easy as you think it will be. I love watching mysteries on TV and I usually can figure things out, but not this time, unfortunately.
Unlocked offers two different scenarios. When you call for reservations you have to choose which room try. The rooms are titled “Speakeasy” and “Framed.” We did the Speakeasy room. We were ushered into the room, read the scenario and then left to figure out the mystery by finding clues throughout the room. The nice thing is that they don’t leave you to your own devices if you get stuck. Everyone in your group has to agree, but then you look at the camera that is mounted on the wall towards the ceiling and do a thumbs up. Then a voice comes over the speaker and gives you a clue.
Let me tell you, 45 minutes goes by so fast. All of us were shocked to hear we only had 15 minutes left. It sure didn’t feel like 30 minutes had elapsed. Everyone in the room wished we had a timer. That way we would have maybe managed our time better and known when to ask for the next clue.
We almost figured the mystery out and probably would have been successful if we had 5 more minutes. Regardless, it was a great time and I would highly recommend it. The employees said that they are open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays in the evenings. They are also available for corporate events during the day by reservations.
Afterwards, we went to The Grande Ranch to continue the celebration and enjoy their pizza while watching the OSU game. It was a great night for us and I think the birthday girl enjoyed it, too!
