Who would have thought an old trumpet given to a sixth grader would have culminated in the 2019 Tommy Guilbert “Music for Life” Award? Well, anyone who knows my dad, Warren (Bud) Breese, would. My dad received this honor on Saturday, March 16 from the Wadsworth (Ohio) Community Band at their concert held at the O.J. Work Auditorium. Dad was a member of the band from its inception in 2004 until recent health challenges in 2018 arose that has prevented him from being able to continue his much … [Read more...]
Gouda Bar & Grill was Very Goud(a), but now it’s Closed
Update: Gouda Bar & Grill might have been very good, but as of Feb. 16, 2019, it is also very closed. Word spread on Facebook about the closing, and today a friend of Bobby's posted on Facebook a picture of the restaurant with the front windows papered over. A lot of people searching for Gouda landed on this blog post because the place didn't have a website, just a Facebook page. This time though, I decided to not get frustrated if I fell down. I told myself I would take the … [Read more...]
Do It Yourself Ugly Sweater
I don't remember how many years that ugly Christmas sweaters have been in vogue. I only know that I have never invested in one. I think every year, that I'll finally breakdown and purchase one, but then I don't. This year I was sure I would. My co-workers had decided to have an Ugly Sweater contest during a carry-in lunch they were planning for Friday, December 14. So I faced a dilemma, do I buy a sweater or just attend the lunch? Or...do I make one myself? Well, I decided to see if I … [Read more...]
Mamma Mia — Here We Go Again! And about time!
Back when my husband, Bobby, and I lived in Hillsboro, Ohio, we got tickets to see the stage production of Mamma Mia, a musical production based on the songs of ABBA, in Columbus at the State Theater. Co-workers of mine had told me how great the show was, but at that time I didn't know any ABBA songs. I went because, well, who turns down seeing a Broadway Show? Let me tell you, I loved the show. It was not too long after the curtain rose that I was caught up in the music and the story. … [Read more...]
