Volunteers placed more than 300 flags in the field in front of Triway High School Friday night as part of the Ohio Flags of Honor Traveling Memorial opening ceremony. The traveling exhibit, which will be at Triway through Sunday afternoon, grew out of two tragedies: The death of Army Specialist Nicholaus E. Zimmer on May 30, 2004, in an enemy attack in Kufa, Iraq, and the heavy losses suffered by Lima Company, Third Battalion, 25th Marines, Fourth Division about a year later. Following … [Read more...]
My Tribute to Mr. Carasea: The Band Director Who Shaped My Life
I received sad news on July 11, 2019. That is the day I heard that Mr. Gerald Carasea, or Mr. C as his students' affectionately called him, passed away at the age of 68. I graduated from Cloverleaf High School over 30 years ago, but I remember fondly my time as a "band rat" under the tutelage of Mr. C. I have so many memories of Mr. Carasea. He was an inspiring person. He taught me the fundamentals of playing the trumpet when I was in fifth grade. He overlooked the fact that I forged … [Read more...]
CC Top: This ZZ Top Tribute Band not Under Pressure
A while ago, I heard one of my favorite Cleveland-area bands would soon be no more ... three of the four members were setting aside their '80s-themed band in favor of CC Top, a ZZ Top tribute band. However, I was in for a pleasant surprise when I attended CC Top's show in Mansfield Saturday night with friends Kenny Hart … [Read more...]
Owney: Meet my New Cousin, Noodle

Plus there was me. Whenever I go over to their house, I make sure that my Uncle Shaun has plenty of kisses to make up for the ones he misses from Parker. But then Aunt Randi started posting pictures of a little wiry-haired dog on Facebook named Noodle. At first my mom, Wendi, thought it was just cute pictures … [Read more...]
Updated: Eatery goes up in ‘Smoke,’ but Biscuit Uprising emerges
Editor's note: This blog post has been updated to include comments about the biscuits and gravy. Wooster has a new restaurant in town, Biscuit Uprising. The biscuit-themed restaurant is the brainchild of the same foodies who gave us Smoke the Burger Joint, Old Carolina BBQ, and Baja West Coast Kitchen -- friends Tim Hug and Brian Bailey, founders of the Ichor Restaurant Group. Biscuit Uprising is on Beall Avenue, occupying the same space that formerly housed Smoke. Hug and Bailey write … [Read more...]
