My birthday falls on a day that will live in infamy, Dec. 7, Pearl Harbor Day. Each year, I can count on two things from my wife, Wendi (the founder of this blog): A poem and a homemade pineapple upside down cake. One year, Wendi found a recipe in the "Joy of Cooking" cookbook for pineapple upside down cake. She decided she would make it for me. Oh, my. The cake was the best pineapple upside down cake I ever had. It has become a tradition over the past 15 years or so. Wendi makes … [Read more...]
Owney says, “‘Tis the Season for UPS”
My mom, Wendi, started her "stay"cation on Friday. My dad, Bobby, is starting his on Monday. I don't know what that really means, other than they are home instead of at work, messing up my day time routine. But the one nice things, is I can be put outside during the day. I know it is a little cooler these days, but I have a fur coat that lets me handle the cold a little longer than people. On Friday was the best, because I was outside when the UPS truck came through the neighborhood. I … [Read more...]
Ricardo Montalban: A Memory of a Lifetime
I was recently looking back over my blog posts and realized I had said I was going to tell my story about Ricardo Montalban. (We met at Cincinnati Bible College and Seminary.) The exact day was Sunday night after we had both returned to Cincinnati after going to our respective families to celebrate the holiday and let them know that we had found each other. We had already decided to get married in the following March, but as I told my family, nothing was … [Read more...]
Animation for Any Generation

When Beauty and the Beast came out in the early 1990's I saw it at least 1/2 a dozen times by myself. I never feel compelled to justify going by dragging a kid along. I am not sure my husband Bobby feels the same way. However, I will say there is an added dimension when you go to a film geared towards children with children in tow. Bobby and I did just that a couple … [Read more...]
