You know how there are places that you drive by all the time and you think to yourself, “Someday I’m going there.” The Parlor Restaurant in downtown Wooster is just such a place for me. Granted, since my 13-plus years of living in Wooster I have gone to The Parlor, but just not very often. Thanks to a co-worker, Angie Speigle, a group of us met early on a Friday morning for breakfast at The Parlor. (This is our second “quarterly” girl’s breakfast, although we somehow missed a quarter somewhere … [Read more...]
A Tale of Two 5Ks in 8 Days: Learning to Never Say ‘Never’
As I write this post, I am able to say that I just finished my second 5K as a "runner." Don't get me wrong, there were plenty of walkers who finished before me, but I ran both times, the whole time. Believe me, that is quite a statement for someone like me. I never, ever, ever would think that running would be part of any sort of exercise that I would do. I'm a couch potato through and through. But when your husband comes home from the doctor saying, "The doctor told me that my joints are … [Read more...]
I Ran My First 5K and Lived to Tell About It
On Saturday, Wendi (my wife and founder of this blog) and I ran the Ashland YMCA Fritter 5K. While I have run the distance before in high school (not as part of a sanctioned race) and have walked a couple 5Ks, this was my first time running a 5K, if you can call it that. I think you can because, as my brother-in-law Shaun Vahl says, "If you have two feet in the air, you are running." So, how did I get there? My new physician encouraged me. My primary care physician had moved his practice … [Read more...]
Farewell to Kirby
When I came to live at my forever home with Mom (Wendi) and Dad (Bobby), the house was filled with cats. Now as a dog, that might not seem like an ideal location to call home. There has been, and probably always will be, this sort of love/hate relationship dogs have with cats. It's in our DNA. But honestly, I didn't mind. I find barking at and chasing cats to be an invigorating part of my life. I love it when they run, it brings out the terrier in me. One of the cats that lives here, Mr. Thomas, … [Read more...]
How Little Ronnie Muir Upset Big Babe Ruth
One of the things I enjoy in life is meeting people and hearing their stories. (Maybe that is because I grew up listening to my dad, Bud, tell stories of his life.) I am fascinated by people who have been around awhile and have much more experience than me. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to spend time with a 92 year old during a recent trip to Massachusetts. My husband, Bobby, and I always stay with his sister, Michelle, and her husband, Glenn. Glenn's dad, Ronnie, also lives with … [Read more...]
