When Wendi and I were on what we believed to be the final leg of a 10-day vacation to see our nephew get married, we each were thinking as we drove through Cincinnati: You want to get LaRosa's Pizza for dinner? We had a somewhat late lunch in Lexington, Ky., with my brother from another mother, Shawn, and his wife and son, but LaRosa's was just too tempting. So, as we were making our way up Interstate 71, I asked, "Do you want to get LaRosa's for dinner?" Lo and behold, Wendi informed me she was … [Read more...]
Viva la Mexico: Vahls Mix Business, Pleasure South of the Border
My husband, Shaun, and I recently took a vacation to Cancun, Mexico. It was part working trip for him since he had some meetings to attend during our 5-day stay, but it was all relaxation for me. We stayed at the RIU Palace Peninsula all-inclusive resort. It's a 16-story hotel that has 562 guestrooms, lined with palm trees and tropical vegetation. They have beach front property, 4 pools, a spa/gym, large buffets, 5 specialty restaurants for dinner, and much more. There are planned … [Read more...]
The Sound of Music Comes Alive in Stowe, Vermont
I love the Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical The Sound of Music. In fact, it is one of my favorites. I grew up watching it every year on network TV (before VCRs and DVDs and DVRs). Julie Andrews owns the role of Maria the nun, turned governess, turned wife of a naval captain. I sing the songs, even when I'm by myself and without any accompaniment. It's just so familiar to me. Sometimes, I have even forgotten it is based on a true story. But this past October 2017, my husband, Bobby, and I were … [Read more...]
Five Things to Do In (or Near) Stowe, Vermont
During a recent visit the family of my husband, Bobby, in Massachusetts, we decided to take a quick trip to Vermont. As those of you who have been following my posts know, quick trips are the reason I started this blog to begin with. So taking a three and a half hour ride to Stowe, Vermont, was a no brainer. There is so much to do, but with only 35 hours, many of those were spent in travel or sleep, I have what I would consider the top things to do if you only have a short amount of time to … [Read more...]
Five Things to do in The Big Apple
We planned our trip to New York City for about a year, give or take a month or two. Through this time frame we would ask friends what they would suggest we do when we were there. We got lots of great ideas, too many to fit into the short five day stay. So now that I am a "pro" at touring the Big Apple, I thought I'd let you know the things I tell someone who was about to visit NYC. Go to a Broadway Show: Whether you like musicals or not, there are tons of options available in the … [Read more...]
