When a co-worker who once worked in New York City recommended I go to Lombardi's for pizza while in Manhattan, I had no clue it was the first pizzeria in America. I knew Emily would not steer me in the wrong direction when it comes to pizza, but I was pleasantly surprised to learn about the spot it has in the history of pizza in America. As I have written before, I grew up outside Boston, where they make what is called a New York-style pizza. Well, the New York pizza is based on the … [Read more...]
Simply Having a Wonderful Wooster Time
When the city editor at The Daily Record, Jarred Opatz, went on vacation, I put in a lot of hours trying to fill his shoes. The job seemingly never ends, and I had a lot of overtime when he was gone. So, with Jarred back, I decided to take Friday off, and Wendi was able to get the day off, too. I wanted to go to Raising Cane's in Columbus (a place that specializes in hand-breaded, deep-fried chicken tenders), but Wendi preferred staying close to home. So, we compromised: We stayed close to … [Read more...]
Bomba Tacos & Rum Brings Caribbean Flavors to Northeast Ohio
When my husband, Bobby, and I went to Fairlawn, Ohio a couple of weeks ago, we were trying to decide where to eat lunch. Anniversary Adventure at Holden Arboretum
My husband, Shaun, and I recently celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary. We wanted to find something to do together that day, that would be memorable. We decided to go to the Holden Arboretum in Kirtland, Ohio to check out the canopy walk and emergent tower. Since I can't explain it any better than their website: "The Holden Arboretum is an outdoor living museum on 3,600 acres that promotes the beauty and importance of trees and other woody plants. The grounds feature over 20 miles of … [Read more...]
Getting the Lowdown on Melt Bar & Grilled
There are some places that I have gone to eat prior to starting my blog. Melt Bar and Grilled is one of those places. The first time I tried Melt it was in Columbus with our cousin Danny. It was okay, I had heard so much about it that I guess I expected something different. When my husband, Bobby, and I went to Fairlawn recently, he suggested we go to the one there. I didn't know that Fairlawn had a Melt, so I figured it must be pretty new. Since I haven't written about it previously, I agreed … [Read more...]
