Little did I know that July 2016 would have the same theme as the Lego Movie--or at least the same theme song "Everything is Awesome." It is this catchy, can't-get-out-of-your-head tune that is forever repeating. Because of my great nephews, DeAveon and Noah, I know that song quite well. Or maybe I should say is is because of my husband, Bobby, who constantly sings the song to DeAveon and Noah whenever he sees them. Either way, it has been playing in my head most of July. First because July was … [Read more...]
Movie Marathon with My Dad
This past Tuesday, July 26, I got to spend time with my dad, Bud, at the movies like we do every year for his birthday. As I've said in another blog post, this is a tradition that started back in 1985 with the movies Silverado, Pale Rider and Cocoon. Since 1985 I think we have only missed one or maybe two years of our movie marathon. My dad and I love movies. We could probably sit and watch movies all day, every day, for a week. So, that we only take one day out of the year for our marathon is … [Read more...]
Reflecting on Ground Zero Visit
I have a confession to make, if you go to Ground Zero, then go to the museum. I really wanted to visit One World Observatory and Ground Zero, but chose only to visit the observatory tower and see the reflecting pools. My wife, Wendi, and I were in town for a very short period of time, and we wanted to see as much as we could. She was in … [Read more...]
Take a Trip Around Manhattan With Me (No Tips Necessary)
My wife Wendi's blog has built a reputation on three things (in my humble opinion): Packing a lot of fun things to do in a short amount of time (Wendi's Weekend Trips); writing about neat places to eat (&); whatever captures her fancy (Whatnot). While the blog has only been around for a year, the concept dates back a number of years. Even before we lived on the outskirts of the Amish Heartland, we took weekend trips there. When we would visit my family in Boston, we would take one and … [Read more...]
Condado Tacos in Columbus es muy bueno
When Wendi and I traveled to Columbus back in April for Special Persons Day at the elementary school where our great-nephews attend, it turned into a two-fer for us. We had a chance to spend some time with DeAveon and Noah, and then share a meal with Wendi's cousin, Danny, who was attending The Ohio State University at the time (he has since graduated with both his bachelor's and master's degrees). We settled on a place I had heard only good things about: Condado Tacos. While Wendi and I … [Read more...]
