When my husband, Bobby, and I were going to New Orleans, I knew that we had to hear live music. I mean seriously, New Orleans is the birthplace of jazz music and Louis Armstrong. The only question was where we would listen to it. I don't think Bobby would have minded if we ended up in some club on Bourbon Street, but that really isn't my type of thing. Instead I talked him into going on a riverboat cruise that also had a live band. Well, actually, it was Bob Adamov who told Bobby we needed to go … [Read more...]
The French Quarter on a Saturday Night Minus Bourbon Street
We are beginning of our fourth day in New Orleans. Much of my husband, Bobby's, time has been working at the CAMEX convention, which is why we are here in the first place. However, we have had our evenings free to explore the city. On Saturday night we decided, or more to the point, Bobby decided we should go to the Napoleon House for dinner. The Napoleon House is in the French Quarter. Let me step back here for a minute. It is February in New Orleans. Based on what one of our drivers for … [Read more...]
See New Orleans From a Newbie’s Eyes
As I start this post, I have been in New Orleans for a total of 20 hours. That's from the touchdown of the airplane til now. Coming from Ohio the first thing to stand out was obviously the weather. When we left in the morning northeast Ohio was in the beginning of a snow storm. New Orleans was sunny and warm. It was like New Orleans was welcoming me here! The next thing to stand out was the friendliness and helpfulness of the citizens. I must look like I am clueless, which isn't far from … [Read more...]
Girl’s Day Out – Medina County Edition
Getting out with my sister, Randi, and my mom, Dolores, is something that I really like to do. It doesn't happen as often as I would want. Realizing that I was going to have some time off from work in early January seemed like the perfect time to get a "Girl's Day Out" on the calendar. It was a week earlier than Mom's birthday, but she was good to go with the flow. We decided to stay nearby and visit shops in Medina that are on or near the square. The day started off, however, in downtown … [Read more...]
God Blessed Us, Everyone
My husband, Bobby and I watch The Muppet Christmas Carol every year. This is one of our favorite holiday traditions. I like this telling of the classic because I enjoy the songs and well, the Muppets are in it. I've always had a soft spot for Kermit the Frog! To say that Charles Dickens was a master story teller, would be an understatement. Obviously he had the ability to reach into the depths of humanity and touch a core need -- the need to belong and be loved. However, the last line of the … [Read more...]
