A while ago, I heard one of my favorite Cleveland-area bands would soon be no more ... three of the four members were setting aside their '80s-themed band in favor of CC Top, a ZZ Top tribute band. My heart sank when I heard the news, because I really liked Moonman TV, and I was not a big fan of the boogie-woogie and blues rock band from Houston, Texas: ZZ Top. Oh, well. However, I was in for a pleasant surprise when I attended CC Top's show in Mansfield Saturday night with friends Kenny Hart … [Read more...]
Updated: Eatery goes up in ‘Smoke,’ but Biscuit Uprising emerges
Editor's note: This blog post has been updated to include comments about the biscuits and gravy. Wooster has a new restaurant in town, Biscuit Uprising. The biscuit-themed restaurant is the brainchild of the same foodies who gave us Smoke the Burger Joint, Old Carolina BBQ, and Baja West Coast Kitchen -- friends Tim Hug and Brian Bailey, founders of the Ichor Restaurant Group. Biscuit Uprising is on Beall Avenue, occupying the same space that formerly housed Smoke. Hug and Bailey write … [Read more...]
Mama Santa’s a nice option in Cleveland’s Little Italy
Wendi and I recently joined Jon and Linda Hall (of Walking Ohio with Jon and Linda Hall fame) on a trip to Cleveland where we spent the day at the Cleveland Museum of Art and part of the night in Little Italy, where we ate dinner at Mama Santa's Restaurant and Pizzeria. We didn't want pizza for dinner (well, actually Wendi didn't; I can eat it any time), and we had no idea we would be eating dinner in Sandusky. Wendi and I were on our way to Marblehead, Ohio, to get away for a little bit. Normally, we take a vacation in the summer, but we had visited North Carolina, Georgia … [Read more...]
Getting to the Hart of the Matter: Friends are Important
About a month or so ago, I received an invite to attend a friend's 50th birthday. In what seemed like two seconds after the invite, I received a text from my friend asking whether I was coming to the party or not because I hadn't clicked on the link and RSVP'd. I told him Wendi and I indeed were coming, and I found the link and indicated we would be intending the 50th birthday bash of Kenny Hart. I met Kenny, along with his fiancee, Dawn Hott, about a year ago through a mutual friend, the … [Read more...]
